But that doesn’t mean you can’t Break them. In fact, with the right amount of force at just the right angle you could actually Chip your Diamond, or worse, Crack it in half or Lose it.

Mountings are no better…

And not only could a little Bump Damage your Diamond, but it could harm your Ring as well. It could Bend your Prongs, Crack them, or even Snap them completely off. It could Damage the actual structure of the Ring as well. It could Bend the Metal, Break the Shank, Loosen your Side Diamonds, or even Crush the Stones in your Channel Wall.

This happens to many people doing simple little task around the house or office. One Bash on the Filing Cabinet, one Smash of the Silverware Drawer, one Kerthunk as you’re moving a heavy object, it could get Caught in a Patio Chair, Knocked in a Screen Door, Crushed in a Pile of Bricks or Books… The point is, anything at anytime could happen to your Diamond or Ring.

Just think of how many times you Cut your fingers, Nick them, Scratch your hands, or get a Bruise and have no idea how it even happened.

Rings take the same kind of abuse, if not more, because they stick up higher than our hands and are always an easy target to WHACK!

People often ask me what they should do?

My answer is simple: Get them Cleaned and Inspected often (and especially if you Bump them hard enough to be concerned about them).

Take them to a local Jewelry Store and have them professionally looked at (this is a FREE service). Jewelers can Check the Diamonds for Chips and Breaks on the edge of the Stone (where they get Damaged the most). They can Microscope the Prongs to make sure they’re still intact. They can check to make sure the Stones are Secure and Tight. That way you won’t have to worry about your Ring, and chances are, you won’t Lose your Precious little Diamond either (the biggest fear of all).

You could even do most of this testing yourself!

You could get yourself a 10x Jewelers Loupe and inspect the stone for Damage. Look for fine Lines, Fractures, Chips or Chunks taken out of the edge (Girdle) or Facets of your stone You could then take Tweezers and see if any of the stones Tilt, Move, or Turn in the Mounting. View the Prongs close-up to see if any of them are Cracked, Dented or Bent (plus, they should all be perfectly spaced apart). Look at the Mounting to see if you have any Dings, Large Scrapes, or Signs of Misshaped Metal or Bent Openings. And of course you could also Clean your Ring in a Ultrasonic Cleaner to keep any Dirt or Debris from wearing down your Ring or Metal. Plus, it will also make your Diamonds look Shiny and New!

Most Jewelers recommend getting your Rings Cleaned and Inspected at least twice a year, and some Policies, Plans, or Guarantees actually require it.

But if it were me I would take them in more often. Like once a month, or every other month, just to be safe. Because losing a Diamond is sad, especially if it’s your sentimental Engagement Ring Masterpiece.

No one wants that to happen!

But, it does happen, and more than you realize…

Which is why I recommend getting your Diamonds and Rings fully Insured against Damage, Lost Stones, or even if your Rings are Stolen or sent down the drain.

That way, even if you do Hit or Bump or Drop your Ring, at least you’ll still have peace of mind! :)

Cheers!

A lot of people are concerned when they Bump, Hit or Drop their Diamond Ring (Which is normally their Engagement Ring).
