I have customers that come into the store every single week<\/strong> to buy new jewelry.<\/p>\n

\nNo lie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(You know who you are.)<\/h2>\n

\nThese ladies (I’ve never seen a man with jewelry addiction<\/strong>, but that’s not to say it doesn’t exist) spend hundreds and thousands of dollars a month on anything from diamond earrings to tennis bracelets to gemstone jewelry to gold chains, platinum pendants and more.<\/p>\n

“I want to charge it!”<\/h2>\n

\nJewelry addicts run up their charge accounts<\/strong>, they put diamonds in layaway, they order designer name brands, they custom design rings, they put huge dazzling earring studs on hold…<\/p>\n

\nThey’re always looking for that next big sparkling diamond<\/strong> and gemstone.<\/p>\n

\nWhile I have no problems waiting on customers like this, I also feel helpless and sorry<\/strong> for them at the same time. Spending this much week after week adds up to an insane amount of debt.<\/p>\n

Buy and return:<\/h2>\n

\nThese same compulsive people buy jewelry, then return it the next week<\/strong>. Or they trade it in a couple months later on something bigger and better. It’s a sickness <\/strong>that can’t be stopped.<\/p>\n

\nSo what can you do if you’re this type of person? <\/strong>Is there a way to keep your money in your pocket?<\/strong> Is there a way to be happy with the jewelry you already have?<\/p>\n

Will you ever be satisfied?<\/h2>\n

\nThere is no cut and dry<\/strong> answer here.<\/p>\n

Addictions are destructive and crippling.<\/h2>\n

\nJewelry addiction can quickly drain your bank account<\/strong>. It can consume your earnings and put you thousands of dollars in debt. And the sad thing is, you still will never fulfill that desire.<\/p>\n

You will always want more.<\/h2>\n

\nIs there a light at the end of the jewelry checkout?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nJewelry addiction will always leave you empty inside…<\/p>\n

\nOnce you wear a 2.00 carat diamond on your finger, everything else looks small by comparison<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Spending habits:<\/h2>\n

\nJewelry addicts can have many different reasons for their spending habits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nThey could want the envy of their girlfriends. Jewelry could be used to compensate <\/strong>for other areas in their lives that are lacking.<\/p>\n

\nIt could be a failed marriage<\/strong>, a stressful job, low self-esteem<\/strong>, a childhood tragedy, a middle aged crisis or maybe just an increase in weight<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Bigger problems:<\/h2>\n

\nUsually these addictions are just signs of a bigger problem. It gets worse when interest charges add up<\/strong>. A $500 diamond necklace suddenly turns into a $1500 weight with credit card charges.<\/p>\n

But there is hope:<\/h2>\n

\nThere is a light at the end of the tunnel…<\/p>\n

\nIt starts with letting go of the jewelry that you don’t wear anymore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nSell it. Return it<\/strong>. Do whatever you can to chop away at that bill<\/strong>. Keep only the most important pieces of jewelry. A ring, a bracelet, a pendant, a watch, some earrings.<\/p>\n

Give up everything else!<\/h2>\n

\nThe only way to get your life and money back is to get a grip on it<\/strong>. It’s time to face the facts and sacrifice. Now I’m not saying give up purchasing. I’m not saying don’t buy jewelry anymore. What I’m saying is slim it down<\/strong>, change your buying habits.<\/p>\n

Buy better:<\/h2>\n

\nBuy white gold instead of platinum. Buy semi-precious gemstones (Amethyst, Topaz, Citrine, Peridot) instead of precious (expensive) gems (Emeralds, Rubies and Sapphires).<\/p>\n

\nPurchase cubic zirconia jewelry<\/a> instead of diamonds.<\/p>\n

\nCZ’s look similar, but are a fraction of the price<\/strong>. And if you really want to turn things around, purchase sterling silver. <\/strong>Silver is inexpensive and it’ll fill that must-buy-jewelry need.<\/p>\n

Cut back and get control:<\/h2>\n

Get the jewelry bills paid off.<\/p>\n

\nBe smart in your choices.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAnd above all, don’t impulse buy<\/strong>. Those snap decisions, no matter what the deal is, can really hurt when you have to pay the price.<\/strong><\/p>\n
