This is an interesting question because people take gemstones and birthstones seriously<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nSome people truly believe that you can’t wear<\/strong> any gemstone that isn’t your birthstone.<\/p>\n

\nSome believe in the old superstitions and curses<\/strong> that have followed gemstones around for centuries. Some wouldn’t be caught dead<\/strong> wearing someone else’s stone.<\/p>\n

\nBut here’s what I say about the whole topic:<\/strong><\/p>\n

HOG-WASH!<\/h2>\n

\nOpals are not cursed birthstones.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nHere’s the truth:<\/strong> Just about every single gemstone has some sort of myth or curse<\/strong> surrounding it. For that matter, so do diamonds<\/strong> (diamonds are probably the worst<\/strong>). But do they stop people from wearing them? NO!<\/p>\n

\nIn fact, if you really truly believe that you shouldn’t wear other people’s birthstones, then you shouldn’t wear diamonds at all…<\/strong> Because diamond is the official birthstone for the month of April.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSo all that superstition voodoo<\/strong> goes right out the window.<\/p>\n

Popular gemstones:<\/h2>\n

\nHere is another reason to not ever worry about wearing other months birthstones that aren’t your birth month… The gemstones that represent the 12 monthly birthstones are the most popular gemstones there are.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWhich also means that you’d be drastically limited<\/strong> in what gemstones you can and can’t wear. Almost every single gemstone found on the market today is someone’s birthstone<\/strong>. So who cares anyway?<\/p>\n

\nIf you like the color and like the gemstone, wear it.<\/strong> Gemstones are meant to be colorful, fun and worn to accessorize your wardrobe. Accentuate those blues, greens, reds, yellows, pinks and purples.<\/p>\n

Mix them up.<\/h2>\n

\nMatch them. Gemstones are beautiful and radiant. Look at mother’s rings for example. They carry other people’s birthstones<\/strong> (even though they are your kids), but still…<\/p>\n

\nPlus, just about every gemstone comes in multiple colors<\/strong> anyway. Sapphire come in exotic colors like blues, pinks, yellows, greens, oranges and even purple. So wearing different colors is no big deal.<\/p>\n

No choice…<\/h2>\n

\nSome people don’t have much choice when it comes to gem colors<\/strong>. I’d like to see the man born in October being told that the only gemstone he could ever wear was a pink tourmaline<\/strong> (which is that month’s official birthstone).<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Legends and myths:<\/h2>\n

\nGemstones, birthstones, myths, legends and lore<\/strong> have been around since the beginning of time. <\/p>\n

Should you worry about it today?<\/h2>\n

\nNo!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nI know a lot of women who are born in August who absolutely hate their birthstone<\/strong>; which is a lime green peridot<\/strong> (see green ring in picture). They’d much rather wear a precious gemstone like ruby (July), sapphire (September), or emerald (May) any day of the week.<\/p>\n

\nI don’t blame them either. Nor would I stop them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nGemstones are an incredible work of nature. They should be admired by all. And what was chosen long ago to represent your month and birthstone shouldn’t matter in the least. What matters is the color and fashion and statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nEnjoy all the gemstones no matter when you were born<\/strong>. Because birthstones weren’t born in one month, they were made all year round<\/strong> (Mother Nature does not stop). And that’s good enough for me.<\/p>\n
