The Brand Name “AKOYA” is a Perfect Name to look for! :) (Note: Genuine Cultured Pearls are Salt Water [NOT Fresh Water Pearls] Grade AAA are the BEST Type to Get!) Amazon has a Perfect Strand Right Here!

See image below…

This may seem like a simple set of Pearls to wear, and you know what? You’re right!

Cultured Pearls

You don’t want the strand of pearls to take away from the dress. Also note that I recommend Round Cultured Pearls, and not Potato Pearls or Fresh Water Pearls like this really CHEAP Set of Freshwater Pearl Necklace, Earrings and Bracelet Here! Now Cultured Pearl Farms are making Huge Progress in Freshwater Pearls, where they do look more Round, but you can still tell the difference… take a look at these Fresh Water Pearls Here!

In my Opinion, totally Round Pearls still look the best and are less distracting. Potato Pearls are more flattened and oval in shape (like a Potato), and Freshwater Pearls are dis-formed and bumpy like a Rice Krispie. See picture below…

Cultured Pearls are usually more uniform in shape and size and contain great shine and luster… at least the middle of the road to high end ones do. The cheapies may look dull.

Many people frown upon a single sized strand of Pearls thinking a Graduated Pearl Necklace looks best. Graduated Pearls tend to run from around 3mm in size all the way up to 8 or 9mm towards the center of the Necklace.

The problem with Graduated Pearls is movement!

As you move (down the isle and across the dance floor), so do the Pearls. A Graduated Set will always ride up your neck and look silly. It won’t create the best photographs, and you’ll be constantly adjusting it. Not cool!

When all the Pearls are the same size, you won’t have this problem. The only issue you may have is the clasp coming forward to the front. A simple light-weight clasp (like those shown in the first image above) tend to be the best to use.

It’s all in the Color!

One thing that the Bride should try to do, is to pick out a set a Pearls that is not totally white (and Genuine Salt Water Pearls usually are not. They Shimmer with Different Background Hues to them). That’s why I recommend Genuine versus Freshwater. When, or if, the Pearls lay over the dress, the Pearls won’t get lost in all the white.

If the Pearls have a slight tone to them, they will give off a nice, soft, feminine luster like the color of her cheeks. :)

The Color of the Pearl matters!

You’ll find all sorts of Pearl Colors on the market: Brown, Green, Black, Blue, Cream… and the WORST Color of Pearl to wear… Dark Yellow!

A Dark Yellow Pearl tends to look Old, Aged and Antique (like smoke-stained). BUT… If the Color of your Dress is Yellow, they may work very well! :)

A Light Pink, Rose, or Cream Pearl removes that worn out look and gives the necklace a beautiful shine and radiance.

A simple Pearl Stud Earring or Dangle Drop (like shown above), makes a wonderful matching accessory (Check out these Bling Bling Bride Earrings!).

Wedding Pearl Meanings:

White Pearls stand for Purity, Truth, Dreamer, Fertility, Innocence, Simplicity, Cleanliness, Faith, Honesty, Protection, Sincerity, and Peace. While Pink Pearls stand for Health, Love, Generosity, Romance, Power, Purity, Passion, Energy, Kindness, Compassion, Loyalty, Faith, Protection, and Happiness.

You can’t go wrong with either one! :)

Hand Me Downs

Be careful of Grandma’s Hand-me-downs… (Something borrowed…)

Often these antique sets of Pearl Strands haven’t been worn for decades, and most will be old and yellowed with weakened with fragile cords (want to play 52 Pearl pick-up?). Some Pearls may even be cracked.

Beware!

Pearls need the natural oils from our bodies to stay shiny and lustrous. The oils soak into the Pearls as you wear them and keeps them looking beautiful forever!

Don’t let your Pearls sit in a drawer to die (wrapping them up doesn’t help). Wear them. Wear them often! (Which is why you should pick a Set of Pearls that is more Everyday, than just One Day!) Just gently wipe them off with a soft cloth when you’re done.

These simple tips should keep your Pearls looking great and the Bride-to-be looking Splendid. Plus, she’ll then be able to pass these puppies down from generation to generation.

So once again…

The Best Pearl Necklace is:

5-6.5mm Wide

16-20″ in length (18″ is called the Princess Length!)

Round Cultured Pearls

Rose, Light Pink, or Cream Tone

Matching Earrings

Pearl Necklace Price

A guesstimation of price for such a Pearl Necklace would run from $500 – $1500 depending on the quality of the Pearls, and the thickness of the Nacre.

P.S. Many times you can tell a better Pearl Necklace from a cheap one just by the cord of the necklace. If the Pearls have knots in-between the Pearls (like the ones in the first picture), it’s usually a better set to own. :)

One Last Thing…

Shoot for a 14k Yellow or White Gold Clasp. That’s my metal of choice for Durability, Shine, and Luster. But I would match the Metal to the Metal of your Wedding Rings. :)

There you go, the Very Best Necklace to wear for your Wedding Day!

Here comes the Bride!

See More Akoya AAA Cultured Pearl Strand Necklaces Here at Amazon!

Cheers! :)

What are the Best Pearls to wear for a Wedding?
