What exactly is a promise ring?<\/h2>\n

\nYou hear people talk about them, but do you really know what they are?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nLots of young couples are interested in these so called rings<\/strong>…<\/p>\n

\nSome people even call them friendship rings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nBut they all mean about the same thing…<\/p>\n

A promise.<\/h2>\n

\nPromise rings are a sign of commitment<\/strong> between 2 people… Usually young people that can’t afford a real engagement ring<\/strong>. These promise rings are basically saying “I promise to be united and committed to you.<\/strong>” Whether it be in lust, love or just a very strong friendship.<\/p>\n

It’s a bond.<\/h2>\n

\nNormally the ring holds a diamond solitaire<\/strong> (see picture), a small single diamond on a gold band. It’s a mini-me engagement ring<\/strong>. A small token of love. Now it may be just crazy infatuation, but that diamond is a serious connection between 2 people. That’s as real as any engagement ring<\/strong> is.<\/p>\n

But… is that a diamond?<\/h2>\n

\nHere’s the catch… Most promise rings hold only a very tiny diamond<\/strong>. Normally just a couple of points, .03-.10<\/strong>. But after all, it’s not the size that matters here, it’s the meaning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nJust the fact that it’s a real diamond is enough.<\/strong> It really doesn’t matter if you need a magnifying glass or 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a> to see it.<\/p>\n

So what about prices?<\/h2>\n

\nPrices for these types of rings can vary greatly. I would suggest spending no more than $150-$400.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIt just depends on the size of the diamond, the quality of that stone, and the thickness of the band.<\/p>\n

\nKeep in mind, a diamond that small is hard to see. Which means, it’ll be even harder to tell the difference between high quality and low quality<\/strong>. Tiny flaws are going to be pretty much invisible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nEven with a microscope<\/a> it’s still hard to see any inclusions or imperfections<\/strong> in stones that small.<\/p>\n

So quality is normally NOT an issue!<\/h2>\n

\nJust get something that looks beautiful and you’ll be fine (For an engagement ring, quality is a whole other story<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\nAll in all, don’t spend an arm and a leg<\/strong>. Just get something nice and cute. It’s the perfect way to strengthen a relationship (and test the waters at the same time). Now that’s a promise you can keep.<\/strong><\/p>\n
