What a coincidence!<\/h2>\n

\nYou walk into a jeweler and as luck would have it, they’re having a SALE!<\/strong>
\nI’m shocked!<\/strong><\/p>\n

A sale at a jewelry store?<\/h2>\n

\nWho would have guessed?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSarcastic? Of course… <\/p>\n

\nBut here’s what’s funny<\/strong>… They’re always having a sale. If you come back in a month or two, viola<\/strong>, they’re having another huge sale!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n(You’ll have to BUY MORE!<\/strong><\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Lucky, or Stupid?<\/h2>\n

\nIf you fall for such a thing, you’ll see, this is what the jewelry industry has become<\/strong>; discounts, sales, promotions, clearance tags, half-off sales, blue-light specials, markdowns, inventory reductions, blowouts… WHEW!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIn fact, you could practically walk into ANY jeweler<\/strong>, ANYTIME<\/strong>, and they will ALWAYS <\/strong>be able to give you special liquidation sale prices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A once in a lifetime offer!<\/h2>\n

\nYes, it’s the before the holiday special sale… Big doorbusters, and the best ones; right here, right now, bottom line, take it or leave it. (p.s. leave it!<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

It’s mind boggling to say the least.<\/h2>\n

\nAnd the truth is, a lot of jewelers have non-stop sales<\/strong>; every month, month after month.<\/p>\n

\nAnd most jewelry stores are willing to go 30-40% off retail<\/strong> all the time<\/em>. It’s no big deal, it’s just normal business. But here’s the catch; Jewelers “discount<\/strong>” all the time, because people don’t want to purchase jewelry at full price anymore<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Really! Who pays retail?<\/h2>\n

\nI don’t know how, or why this all began, but people simply WILL NOT pay full retail price for jewelry <\/strong>ever. People want to feel like they’re getting a deal<\/strong>, especially on luxury items.<\/p>\n

Is it because jewelry is expensive?<\/h2>\n

\nIt could be because it’s a want<\/strong> and not a need.<\/p>\n

\nOr maybe it’s just because people don’t trust jewelers anymore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nPeople feel like jewelers are ripping them off<\/strong>. So unless they get a deep discount, they won’t buy<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

“Fool” retail price…<\/h2>\n

\nI think in the last 20 years, I’ve probably only sold a hand full of items at full retail price<\/strong> (Pronounced FOOL!<\/strong>) I mean come on, I wouldn’t pay full price, would you?<\/em><\/p>\n

\nSo when you’re shopping around and see sale signs screaming 30% off<\/strong>, just think to yourself “That’s the normal everyday price.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nYou’ll be in a much better frame of mind for buying that way.<\/p>\n

\nSo what is considered a GOOD DISCOUNT SALE PRICE? <\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe best jewelry discounts are 50% off or more<\/strong> (and 60-70% is great!)<\/p>\n

\nI can live with those kind of sales.<\/p>\n

\nBut they come with a hitch…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Buyer beware…<\/h2>\n

\nSome jewelers jack up the price<\/strong> to accommodate those deep sale prices<\/strong>. It turns out, you may not be getting that great of a deal after all. I’ve seen it happen… It ain’t pretty!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nI’ve also seen stores sell things at half-off…<\/strong> But they sell those things at half-off EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE YEAR!<\/strong> No lie! One particular company had gold chains half-off every day for ten years!<\/strong> <\/p>\n

It was always on sale…<\/h2>\n

\nSo just know, that there’s a lot of fraud <\/strong>, or misleading sale prices out there. You have to proceed carefully and do a lot of shopping and comparing<\/strong> to see what’s a sale, and what’s not. That way you won’t get suckered into those so called deals. You’ll also be able to determine which jewelers are marking their prices ridiculously high<\/strong>. Avoid the jewelers that gouge the public<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

One more lesson…<\/h2>\n

\nNot all “SALES<\/strong>” are fake. Some markdowns are real and legit<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nBut, you still have to look closer at the product<\/strong> they’re discounting…<\/p>\n

\nOften the stuff that jewelers mark down (50-60-80% off), are marked down for a reason.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nOld inventory that’s been sitting around for years gets discounted and dumped.<\/p>\n

\nJewelry with low quality stones<\/strong> get sold at cost…<\/p>\n

\n10kt gold<\/strong> usually gets discounted too.<\/p>\n

\nOr maybe created stones, or synthetics<\/strong>… <\/p>\n

\nIt could be a stone with a small chip in the side (like dented appliances).<\/p>\n

Damaged goods!<\/h2>\n

\nLook closely at deep discounted pieces and ask yourself…<\/p>\n

Why is it on sale?<\/h2>\n

\nJewelers normally don’t sell low if they don’t have to.<\/p>\n

\nSo look carefully. Because often these magnificent sales are also FINAL SALES!<\/strong> (No returns)<\/p>\n

Are ALL sales bad?<\/h2>\n

\nAbsolutely not! I’m not saying there are not REAL sales<\/strong> out there in the jewelry industry. I’m just saying that people expect a sale<\/strong>, and jewelers are going to give it.<\/p>\n

Simple as that!<\/h2>\n

\nIt may be an illusion, but it’s just one of those things. Perceived or not<\/strong>. We want to feel like we’ve made a good decision. We want to feel like we’ve saved a ton of money…<\/p>\n

\nAnd if takes a jewelers red tag sale <\/strong>to do that, then by all means do so!<\/em><\/p>\n

\nBut keep your eyes open, because some jewelers will take advantage of that fact and stick it to you. As long as you know going in, that not all sale prices are up to par<\/strong>, you’ll be just fine! <\/p>\n

\nMy best advice…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shop and compare!!!<\/h2>\n

\nAnd if you end up getting a great deal in the long run…<\/p>\n
