You know what a cocktail ring is, don’t you ladies?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s a gaudy eye-sore!<\/h2>\n

\nIt’s a ring that has tons and tons of small diamonds<\/strong> in it, held in by billions of gaudy beads<\/strong> or prongs all stacked up on top of cheap yellow gold mountings<\/strong> (see picture).<\/p>\n

\nYes, most cocktail rings are old-looking<\/strong> and made or 10kt or 14kt yellow gold.<\/p>\n

\nThe heads and prongs are either white gold or more than likely, just rhodium plated <\/strong>to look white. They are rhodium plated to make them sparkle more and to mask the globs of gold from the globs of diamonds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So let’s get to the point:<\/h2>\n

\nWhy do women like these gaudy monstrosities?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why do jewelers still sell them?<\/h2>\n

\nThese are low quality rings with diamonds plastered all over them looking like pyramids<\/strong>. I mean, come on… Some rings have 50 diamonds<\/strong> in them totaling 1.00 carat. WOW! The carat weight is impressive, but when you do the math, that means those diamonds are only .02 points a piece.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

That’s going to cost you!<\/h2>\n

\nDo you know how many prongs it takes to hold in 50 diamonds?<\/strong> My guess is at least 150 or more<\/strong>. Better get an extended service plan<\/strong> for that ring, because when those prongs wear down and need to be retipped, it’s going to cost you a fortune.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why do I dislike cocktail rings so much?<\/h2>\n

\nCould it be the insane, crazy, prong-work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nProngs slapped all over the diamonds quickly and haphazardly<\/strong>, sometimes covering them, sometimes not. Most of the times these prongs are missing the diamond<\/strong> all together and just sticking straight up.<\/p>\n

\nDon’t believe me?<\/strong> Grab a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a> and take a closer peek. Those prongs are always going to be catching things, snagging things, snapping off, losing diamonds<\/strong>… You’ve got so many prongs, you could lose a diamond or two and never know it!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plus, they’re full of inclusions too.<\/h2>\n

\nNot that you wouldn’t mind losing a diamond once you see the quality of those stones<\/strong>. Under a 10x loupe, there’s a good chance you’ll see lots of inclusions<\/strong>, cloudy spots, black pepper spots, even chips. Most of the diamonds in cocktail rings will look like pieces of salt<\/strong>. Some will look like yellow globs of glue! No lie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mountings are usually cheap and weak…<\/h2>\n

\nWire frames, thin hollowed out gold, nothing substantial, nothing durable. You get a big look<\/strong> with very little quality. <\/p>\n

My advice:<\/h2>\n

\nPass up these old, gaudy, granny-style cocktail rings<\/strong> and get a good looking ring with a couple of nice quality stones<\/strong> instead.<\/p>\n

\nNew variations of ladies cocktail rings are cute, stylish and stunning. Look at the white gold versions, now called “right-hand rings<\/strong>” (see picture).<\/p>\n

\nThe new rings are beautiful, modern and one ring that definitely gets it ‘right<\/strong>‘!<\/p>\n
