That if a ring just happens to be in the correct finger size, it’s a sign from the elegant God of jewelry to buy it.

“It fits! I better buy it!”

Do you know how ridiculous this sounds?

Is it superstitious? Is there some law of nature that says size is the only indicator that matters?

What people fail to realize is this:

Rings are always made and created in a standard size and format.

They don’t come in 20 different shapes and sizes like clothes do. You get the same standard size. And that size is normally a size 6.5 (It used to be a 6, but because the average waist size for people is getting larger, they bumped the average ring size up as well).

So if your finger is a size 6.5, what that means, is you could walk into any jewelry store on the face of the earth, and just about every single ring in their showcases would fit you.

Is that fate?

I don’t think so. Does that also mean that you’d have to buy the entire store?

Only in my wildest dreams.

They come in average sizes

Jewelry and rings in jewelry stores are always made as average sizes. Ladies bracelets are always 7″. Men’s bracelets are 8″. Anklets are 9″. Chains and necklaces come in sizes 16″, 18″, 20″, 24″, & 30″. Ladies rings 6.5 (some still come in a size 6). Men’s standard ring size is 10 (the men’s standard size has never changed).

It’s not destiny, it’s just standards.

Mass produced:

You see, people believe that rings come in all different sizes because of sterling silver. Silver rings are cheap and mass produced.

They are impulse buys and people want to wear them now. They don’t want to wait for them to be sized. So silver manufacturers produce these cheap rings in tons of different sizes (often it would cost more than the ring to get them sized). You can try them all on to find one that fits immediately. Sizes 5-12… we have them. It’s perfect when you’re on vacation, or a cruise ship… Look at all the yummy sizes.

Silver rings are not the only types of rings that come in different sizes though.

Plain gold wedding bands do as well.

This is because they’re plain and it costs more to size gold properly than to carry them in the correct sizes.

Plus a lot of guys buy their wedding bands at the last minute and need one that fits pronto.

Gold bands are the exception to the “standard rule”.

But that’s it.

Everything else, every ring, every wedding set, every anniversary band or diamond or engraved wedding band is made in the standard sizes: Ladies’ size 6.5. Men’s size 10.

A proper fit:

To get those rings fitted, your ring will have to be either sizedup or sized down. It’s not a big deal.

Fine jewelry has to be sized to fit properly.

It’s what separates fine jewelry from those bubble gum machine rings (remember those dyecast gold-plated rings that cost you a quarter and you had to squeeze it on your finger to fit?) Those costume rings came in one size fits all too…

Jewelry, rings, bracelets, even anklets and chains need to be fitted depending on the size and stature of the person buying it.

Fate? No!

Maybe if your car broke down in front of the jewelry store and they just happened to have your name or initials carved in diamonds and gold… That may be a sign.

But basing a buying purchase on whether or not the ring fits?

That’s just absurd.

It’s an excuse that doesn’t fit any law of reasoning.

A ringless finger…

YES!

That’s your destiny.

Cheers! :)

Some people are really odd with jewelry and their beliefs.
