\nIf you just bought a laser inscribed certified diamond<\/strong>, then you are now part of an elite group of individuals who have seen (hopefully) a laser inscription<\/strong> under a microscope<\/a>…<\/p>\n

And you will never see it again.<\/h2>\n

What?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s true, most people only look at their inscription during purchase<\/strong>, and once the ring is bought, they never bother to look at that inscription ever again. <\/p>\n

\nIt’s such a shame.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scrutinize<\/h2>\n

Most people view their diamond under a 10x microscope<\/strong> when buying it. They scrutinize color<\/a> and clarity<\/a>. They look at tons of certificate paperwork <\/strong>and compare stones all over town. But shortly afterwards, it all starts to fall apart… You know what they say, out of sight, out of mind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All that newly learned diamond knowledge gets safely tucked onto a shelf in the back of your brain. <\/p>\n

Who needs it anymore, right?<\/h2>\n

\nYou bought the stone. The hard parts done. It’s certified and laser inscribed<\/strong>. End of story.<\/p>\n

\nWhat more can you ask for?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peace of mind and protection<\/h2>\n

Laser inscriptions are more than just a set of numbers and letters on your diamond that you see once<\/strong>. They’re security<\/strong>. Those numbers correspond to the same exact numbers listed on your certificate diamond report. They guarantee that the diamond on your finger, matches the color, clarity and carat weight of the diamond listed on the report. You can’t forget that.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Those numbers are there to protect you from fraud.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIf you take your ring to a jewelry store for cleaning and inspection, sizing, repairs, retipping<\/strong>, or any kind of problems or maintenance, you’ve got to get into the habit of scoping it.<\/p>\n

\nScope your diamond before and after you get your ring back<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Verification<\/h2>\n

Scoping your diamond will verify that the diamond you receive back is the exact diamond you bought. View it under a 10x microscope<\/a> (all jewelers have these) or under a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a>. You want to scope it and search for your engraved inscriptions on the edge of the girdle (see picture). <\/p>\n

\nInscriptions are not easy to locate, see, or read, but they’re there. <\/p>\n

\nDouble check that the inscription is the exact inscription<\/strong> listed on your diamond report.<\/p>\n

\nThey must match.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Making sure those numbers match will keep unscrupulous people from switching out your diamond and ripping you off.<\/p>\n

\nRead: Prevent your diamond from being switched.<\/a><\/p>\n

Scope your diamond.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Find your number.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Identify your stone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Protect yourself from scams.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You may not always remember what your diamond’s color or clarity is (I’d recommend taking a photo of the certificate<\/strong> with your smartphone). But if you remember to scope your diamond every time you hand it off to someone to work on, then you’ll always have peace of mind when you get your diamond back.<\/p>\n

It only takes a minute.<\/h2>\n

Your ring may only be out of your hands for a couple of minutes<\/strong>, but that may be enough time for a jeweler to swap out your stone.<\/p>\n

\nEven if you feel safe and trust your jeweler<\/strong>, I would still scope it.<\/p>\n

\nScoping it doesn’t harm anyone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nYou can’t do anything after <\/strong>the fact. You have to do it now.<\/strong> Sizings, repairs, cleanings, whatever you do, do the right thing…<\/strong> Get out the jeweler’s loupe<\/a> and look for your report numbers. They are all unique and will identify your diamond.<\/p>\n

\nDo it while you’re still at the jewelers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Don’t wait.<\/h2>\n

\nProtect yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nProtect your diamond.<\/p>\n
