They stack one on another and you wear them all on the same finger like a pile of pancakes.

They become a set.

Now any rings could really be considered ‘stackable‘, I mean you could stack up anniversary bands (which would work well). The point is, there are no set rules when it comes to stacking rings. It’s all in what you like (and how many you feel comfortable wearing).

BUT… I can give you some helpful hints that will give you the best possible look.

Have matching styles

Keep the rings thin

Make sure the rings fit good together (no large gaps)

Now let’s take a closer look…

1) Have matching styles:

Now when I say matching, I don’t mean that the gemstones have to match (in fact, they look better if they don’t), I just mean that the rings should be similar. Identical rings look great. That is, if the gemstones, diamonds or metal vary (when you vary them you’ll get a much cooler look that goes with everything). Most stackable jewelry is a combination of different gemstones or different metals.

For example:

One ring could be sapphire and diamonds, one ring could be emerald and diamonds, and the last ring could be ruby and diamonds (see image).

Keep in mind that any gemstones or diamonds will work. Pink tourmaline and amethyst look great together. Tanzanites and alexandrites. There are so many to choose from…

I’ve seen sets of rings that alternate colors back and forth; Ruby, sapphire, ruby, sapphire. I’ve also seen ladies buy stackable rings to wear as mother’s rings (I love this idea. – See some awesome gemstone stackable bands HERE). Each ring had a different child’s birthstone in it. Aquamarine, peridot, citrine… The mothers then stack the rings up in order from youngest child to oldest. It’s awesome and it gets you away from those cheap, tacky mother’s rings that we all know and dread.

I’ve seen other stackable jewelry that is nothing but diamonds (my favorite). What makes it stackable is the fact that they were different metals. One was yellow gold, one was white gold and the last one was rose gold (see image). It’s an awesome look. Very stylish (see them here: diamond stackable bands).

2) Keep the rings thin:

By thin, I don’t mean paper-thin, you don’t want your jewelry breaking, but a nice durable width like 2-3mm each works perfectly. It really all depends on the shape and style of the rings you choose. Each set is different.

The thing to remember here is that it has to feel comfortable (which is hard to determine when you’re buying the rings because they aren’t sized yet – Try on other rings that are the right width and see how they look and feel).

So if you are putting 3 rings on (my favorite amount for stacking) and those 3 rings are 3mm each, then that’s 9mm total width that’s going to be on your finger.

That could be too wide for some ladies to handle. You should be able to bend your fingers without any problems. It should not feel constricted or uncomfortable in the least. Width is something you’ll have to determine based upon your own finger length.

That’s why I usually suggest around 2mm width each. It just seems to work better for most people and it tends to look the best on their hands as well.

3) Make sure the rings fit good together (no large gaps)

Stackable jewelry works best if they are flat-ish.

Flat bands fit flush against each other and always give you an elegant, clean, and attractive look. Do Note that stackable jewelry also works well if they aren’t flat, as long as they have a special design in them that allows them to fit flush together.

I’ve seen some cute stackable jewelry that had edges sticking out that looked like rounded triangles. These triangles actually fit nicely together and the rings fit smooth and flat. Great designs. Great rings. Like an interlocking puzzle.

And it’s no puzzle that most jewelers carry some sort of stackable rings nowadays. They’re quite popular. Check out your local jeweler and see what they have in stock. You’ll be amazed.

Whatever you do, I advise you to be creative with it.

There are no limits.

Have fun mixing colors and metals and gemstones and diamonds. See what unique looks you can come up with. Wear the rings apart, wear them together, enjoy them.

Plus you can put different themes together like, red and green for Christmas, orange and black for Halloween… Red, white and blue for the 4th… There are endless color combinations and clever styles to make. Blue and Gold? No problem! What are your favorite colors?

In my book, stackables are a great look and a worthy addition to your jewelry collection.

It’s well worth the purchase and it’s ultra-cool.

Buy purples to match your purple dress.

Who knew accessories could be so much fun?

Is stackable jewelry at the top of your stack?

It should be.

Cheers! :)

The term stackable (as in stackable rings) have been around for quite a long time.
