You see those special promotional offers<\/strong> all the time. <\/p>\n

\nJewelers advertise great deals with insane coupons, giveaways, discounts and even free items to get customers in the door.<\/p>\n

FREE?<\/strong> <\/p>\n

\nYou bet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Do these promotions work?<\/h2>\n

\nAre they worth it?<\/p>\n

An example of a promotional sale<\/strong> would be this box chain shown below. <\/p>\n

\nThis box chain is 10kt yellow gold, 7\u2033 long<\/a>, with a spring ring clasp<\/strong> on it.<\/p>\n

We sent out (many many years ago) 30,000 fliers<\/strong> promoting the fact that this one day (and one day only<\/strong>), we would allow customers to come into the store and purchase this box chain bracelet for $5.00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

FIVE BUCKS?<\/h2>\n

That’s a hell of a price.<\/strong> Really it is. You can’t go anywhere and buy a gold bracelet for $5.00… <\/p>\n

Even if it is cheap… <\/h2>\n

Five bucks normally wouldn’t even buy you the spring ring clasp<\/strong>, let alone the entire bracelet. <\/p>\n

\nSpring rings cost around $10.00+<\/a> (give or take). <\/p>\n

So was it a deal?<\/h2>\n

\nDid it work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Did it drive people in to buy?<\/h2>\n

You bet it did!<\/p>\n

It drove people in like crazy. It was a sea of wall to wall customers. All of them trying to decide if that little bracelet was worth the $5.00 purchase. <\/p>\n

It was a hoot!<\/h2>\n

I showed one lady the bracelet in the box (we pre-boxed them to make the selling process faster). I said to her “This is a box chain…<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

\nAnd she cut me short and replied… “You’re right about that! It’s too thin to wear, it stays in the box!<\/strong>” ha!<\/p>\n

\nYou see, those bracelets were super skinny, thin and very, very narrow. If you placed it on your arm, it all about disappeared.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What was the goal?<\/h2>\n

\nThe goal was, of course, to upgrade<\/strong> the customer into a bigger and nicer (more expensive) bracelet for only about $30.00 more<\/strong> (this was not considered bait and switch<\/strong> because we did have the bracelet in stock and we were selling it for the advertised price).<\/p>\n

Some people bought the nicer bracelet. Others took the $5.00 one<\/strong>. Still others pondered this for a good hour or so<\/strong>, and then decided to ponder it some more… ha!<\/strong> It was only $5.00…<\/p>\n

Some wanted to know what the gram weight of the bracelet was?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n(3 grams?<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

\nThen they wanted to know if that was with the tag or without the tag??? lol<\/strong><\/p>\n

Promotions like these usually do work.<\/h2>\n

\nEverybody loves a deal, no matter what it is. A $5.00 bracelet is cheap, but it’s still a $5.00 bracelet.<\/p>\n

\nThe point is, you get what you pay for<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Some places give away cheap pearl earrings<\/strong> (like these HERE at Amazon<\/a>). Some run promotions on free silver charms<\/strong> (see image). Others have gift certificate giveaways or great contests where you can win flat screen HDTV’s. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Either way, it’s cheap.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nIt’s fun.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

\nAnd it gets people in the store.<\/p>\n

Goal accomplished!<\/h2>\n

Jewelers may not make any money on these crazy promotions<\/strong>… (the box itself costs a buck<\/strong>, and then you still got a box and a bag). <\/p>\n

\nMost jewelers lose money running these deals… <\/p>\n

\nBut it gains them clientele<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

And that’s worth every penny.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Box chain anyone?<\/p>\n

\nThere’s only 345<\/strong> left.<\/p>\n
