Sticker shock:<\/h2>\n

\nPeople get sticker shock<\/strong> daily, especially when they’re shopping for diamonds. <\/p>\n

\nSome people who haven’t looked at the price of diamonds for over 20 years and are in for a nice, little surprise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It’s a fact…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diamonds are not cheap!<\/h2>\n

The way diamonds are priced makes it even harder for some people to grasp…<\/p>\n

\nSo how does carat weight affect price?<\/strong> <\/p>\n

\nLet’s find out…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Picture this:<\/h2>\n

A .25 carat (1\/4) diamond, VS1 clarity, E color<\/a> (my favorite clarity and color<\/strong>). A going rate for this particular diamond (as of this writing) is $570.00 <\/p>\n

\nThat’s actually a pretty great deal (these prices were obtained through James Allen<\/a>)<\/p>\n

So, logically that would mean that double the carat weight, would be double the price?<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Right?<\/h2>\n

\nIt makes sense. But, NOOOO!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThat would be wrong.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA .50 carat diamond, VS1, E<\/a> is going for $1,730.00<\/strong> Over triple<\/strong> the price.<\/p>\n

Why is this?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bigger the stone…<\/h2>\n

The more rare it becomes<\/strong>. Especially when we’re dealing with a great clarity like VS1 and<\/strong> a great color like E. <\/p>\n

\nThe more rare in nature a diamond gets, the more money it will cost.<\/p>\n

The next step up is no better…<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA .75 carat (3\/4), VS1, E<\/a>, is priced at $3,800.00<\/strong> So that wasn’t too bad a leap. Just a little bit more than double.<\/p>\n

But what about a 1 carat?<\/h2>\n

\nA one carat diamond, VS1 clarity, E color<\/a> is selling for $8,300.00<\/strong> <\/p>\n

WOW!<\/h2>\n

\nThat’s a nice chunk of change isn’t it? <\/p>\n

\nFar cry from the $1700 1\/2 carat. <\/p>\n

\nSo a one carat of the exact same color and clarity<\/strong> of a half carat is actually about 5 times the price.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Quintuple!<\/h2>\n

\nCan you believe it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rare in nature:<\/h2>\n

Anything one carat or larger is very rare in nature. That’s why prices start to escalate<\/strong>. Also keep in mind, we’re talking about one of the best clarities<\/strong> and best colors<\/strong> available on the market today. These qualities force the prices to the top.<\/p>\n

Sticker shock yet?<\/h2>\n

Let’s keep on moving… <\/p>\n

\n1.50 carats, VS1 clarity E color<\/a> makes the cash registers ring at $16,200.00<\/strong> (what I paid for my first car<\/strong> …but then again, my car did die 20 years ago, HA! And this diamond would still be around looking brand new. So it’s all relative… You have to put “lifetime<\/strong>” into perspective).<\/p>\n

Interesting?<\/h2>\n

\nAre you curious to see what even bigger carat weights<\/strong> bring?<\/p>\n

A 2.00 carat diamond, VS1, E<\/a> is going for $30,000.00<\/strong>. I’m sure I heard a few of you GASP <\/strong>at that price. <\/p>\n

\nThat’s some major dough<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Still going…<\/h2>\n

How about a diamond the size of your thumbnail?<\/strong> <\/p>\n

5.00 carats:<\/h2>\n

\nA five carat diamond<\/a> of similar quality (better be sitting for this one<\/strong>) would cost you…<\/p>\n

$250,000.00<\/h2>\n

LOL! <\/p>\n

\nPocket change, right?<\/strong><\/p>\n

So you see, going from a .50 carat all the way up to a 5.00 carat (ten times the size<\/strong>) doesn’t give you just ten times the price, it’s actually around a 136 times increase.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

What do you want?<\/h2>\n

\nThis house or that diamond? <\/strong><\/p>\n

\nLove is grand, is it not?<\/strong><\/p>\n

That 1.00 carat diamond for 8 G’s<\/a> doesn’t sound too bad, now does it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anything 1.00 carat or higher is going to demand a premium price.<\/p>\n

\nThese stones are very rare and very valuable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Most women would die for a 1.00 carat<\/strong>… Well, not really die, but some would faint.<\/strong> :)<\/p>\n

Bigger is better…<\/h2>\n

\nBut only if you’ve got the bucks <\/strong>to back it.<\/p>\n

Otherwise, that 1\/2 carat<\/a> is looking pretty darn sweet.<\/p>\n
