Take a hands on approach.<\/h2>\n

Experience is where you really begin to learn<\/strong>. It’s applying practical knowledge. Seeing with your own eyes. Taking a hands on approach makes everything click in place. It’s like a light bulb going off in your head. That ah-ha moment<\/strong>. A book can’t give you that.<\/p>\n

Until you physically go to a jewelry store (or buy your own microscope<\/a> or a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a>) and really start to Look at all the diamonds in detail, all the diamond information, terms and 4C’s are pretty much useless.<\/p>\n

You have to see it to believe it.<\/h2>\n

\nHow can you decide if fluorescence<\/a> will be harmful to a diamond’s beauty until you see it?<\/p>\n

You can’t.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You will never fully comprehend the differences between an SI1 diamond<\/a> and an I1 diamonds<\/a> until you actually put them side by side.<\/p>\n

It’s like buying a diamond and only looking at the certificate<\/a>. That’s crazy<\/strong> (like buying a car and only looking at the window sticker). You can’t buy a diamond based solely upon it’s stats.<\/p>\n

Stats don’t show you how beautiful a diamond is, or how much brilliance and sparkle it gives off.<\/p>\n

\nYou have to see these with your own 2 eyes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So what’s the best way to learn?<\/h2>\n

There are 3 easy steps<\/strong> that make learning about diamonds fun and painless…<\/p>\n

1) Talk about diamonds:<\/h2>\n

Chat with the salespeople in the jewelry store. Ask questions<\/strong>. Try to understand why one diamond looks better than another. Talk about certification<\/a> and Culets<\/a> and facets and symmetry<\/a>. Get to know them.<\/p>\n

Use my diamond guide<\/a> to really open your eyes.<\/p>\n

Soak up as much info as you can.<\/p>\n

2) Microscope the diamonds:<\/h2>\n

\nThis is probably the number one way<\/strong> in the world to understand, study and learn about diamonds.<\/p>\n

You have to look at them. Really look at them.<\/p>\n

Close up.<\/h2>\n

Under 10x magnification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Get into the microscope<\/a> and don’t be afraid to dissect the diamond<\/strong>. Looks at the flaws and inclusions. Look at the girdle and the laser inscription<\/a>. Look at how the facets line up.<\/p>\n

Spend some time looking at the diamond from all depths and focal points. Turn the diamond around, look at it from the side and upside down through the pavilion.<\/p>\n

Learn about the diamond inside and out. Find out what makes it tick.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diamonds are a microscopic world that are fascinating and wonderful. Once you see a diamond under a scope or a 10x jeweler’s loupe<\/a> you will finally begin to understand what a bearded girdle<\/strong> is. You’ll see what a fish-eye<\/strong> looks like.<\/p>\n

All the things that you hear jewelers talk about will finally become crystal clear. It’s like zen<\/strong>: You will gain clarity.<\/strong> :)<\/p>\n

You’ll learn about eye-clean diamonds<\/a>, questionable SI2 diamonds<\/a>, trigons<\/a>, cheap I3 diamonds<\/a>. It will open your eyes and you’ll never look at diamonds the same way again.<\/p>\n

Microscope the diamonds. It will change your whole point of view<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3) Compare the diamonds:<\/h2>\n

Put 2 different clarities of diamonds (VVS and VS<\/a>) under the scope one after another. See why one is graded higher than the other.<\/p>\n

Compare like<\/strong> qualities (SI1 and SI1) under the scope. Notice how different they are even though they are graded the same way<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Compare an average quality diamond (SI1) to a Flawless diamond<\/a>. It will make you understand more.<\/p>\n

Compare color<\/a>. Compare cut grades<\/strong>. Does the diamond leak light?<\/a><\/p>\n

See why one diamond of the exact same carat weight<\/a> can be thousands of dollars more than another.<\/p>\n

It can be the difference of a single black carbon spot<\/a> at just the right angle.<\/p>\n

Study diamonds:<\/h2>\n

Until you really start to study diamonds, you may never really know what good quality<\/a> is and what bad quality is.<\/p>\n

You have to get in there, discuss them, look at them, compare them. For until you do…<\/p>\n

\nYou will never feel totally comfortable dealing with diamonds<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\nPlus, you will always feel like you are getting ripped off<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
