Having a culet, or <strong>not<\/strong> having a culet?<\/p>\n<p>Both can be considered excellent. So is one better than the other? <\/p>\n<p>\nLet&#8217;s find out by taking another look at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/diamond-culet\/\">culets<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><h2>What is a culet?<\/h2>\n<p>\nA culet is the very bottom point (tip) of a diamond. This is where all the facets of the pavilion (<strong>base of the diamond<\/strong>) meet up.<\/p>\n<p>The culet is the name of the facet that is left behind when the diamond cutter <strong>cuts that point off<\/strong>. Most of the grades are <strong>excellent<\/strong> or <strong>good<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Only when you get into large, very large, or extremely large culet sizes does it start to affect the look of the diamond.<\/p>\n<p>A large culet will make it look <strong>like the diamond has a hole in it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><h2>The 8 different grades of culets are:<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong>None = Excellent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Very Small = Excellent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Small = Excellent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Medium = Very Good<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Slightly Large = Good<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Large = Good<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Very Large = Fair<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Extremely Large = Poor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>The Best Culet to have<\/h2>\n<p>\nThe best type of culet to have is anywhere from <strong>no culet<\/strong>, to a <strong>medium culet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can see what type of culet you have by checking out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewelry-secrets.com\/Blog\/how-to-read-a-gia-diamond-report\/\">diamond report<\/a> (a.k.a. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/loose-diamonds\/round-cut\/?Color=H,G,F,E,D&#038;Cut=Ideal,TrueHearts&#038;Clarity=SI1,VS2,VS1,VVS2,VVS1,IF,FL&#038;PriceFrom=200&#038;PriceTo=999000&#038;CaratFrom=1.00&#038;CaratTo=15.00&#038;Sort=Price&#038;Polish=EX&#038;Symmetry=EX&#038;Lab=GIA&#038;Flour=None?a_aid=JSDG\">GIA certified diamonds<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The funny thing is, even when the diamond has <strong>no culet<\/strong>, it is still listed under culet: <strong>Culet = None<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>No culet <strong>is considered excellent<\/strong>. It prevents the diamond from damage.<\/p>\n<p><h2>Is one better than the other?<\/h2>\n<p>Is having a small culet better than not having one? Sure! <strong>Why risk chipping a diamond if you don&#8217;t have to?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you really want to take the chances?<\/p>\n<p><h2>Picture this:<\/h2>\n<p>\nYou buy a beautiful loose diamond (the only way to buy a diamond is loose) with a top of the line color and clarity (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/loose-diamonds\/all-diamonds\/?Color=F,E,D&#038;Clarity=VS2,VS1,VVS2,VVS1,IF,FL&#038;PriceFrom=200&#038;PriceTo=999000&#038;CaratFrom=1.00&#038;CaratTo=15.00&#038;Polish=EX&#038;Symmetry=EX&#038;Lab=GIA&#038;Flour=None?a_aid=JSDG\">like these diamonds here<\/a>). It&#8217;s also certified by the best there is: GIA. You decide to have the diamond set into a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jamesallen.com\/engagement-rings\/solitaire\/?a_aid=JSDG\">tiffany style engagement ring<\/a>. But, during the setting process, the jeweler accidentally pushes the diamond too far into the head (what holds the diamond in place) and chips the tip of the stone.<\/p>\n<p>Chances are good that <strong>the jeweler won&#8217;t realize he did it either<\/strong>. And unless you <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Edr9HQ\">microscope<\/a> your diamond when you pick it up, <strong>you won&#8217;t know as well<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><h2>Scary?<\/h2>\n<p>\n<strong> You bet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><h2>So in my opinion&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Having a small culet, or medium, is the best culet to have.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nAs far as the diamond report goes, small culet, medium, or no culet will be graded the same (<strong>excellent<\/strong>).
