5 Reasons To Buy A Lobster Claw Clasp

Lobster?

What are Lobster Claw Clasps?

Just the Safest, Most Secure Durable Necklace or Bracelet Clasp on the Planet.

REALLY!

Want me to Prove it?

Not a Problem!

I Give You:

5 Great Reasons To Buy A Lobster Claw Clasp

Enjoy!

1) Durable Durable Durable

Did I say Durable?

I mean it. These Clasps are Thick, Heavy, Won’t Dent or Crush (Easily), and it Should Last you a Long, Long Time (Usually the Life of the Chain).

They won’t pull open like a Cheap Spring Ring (As shown below). They are Thicker and Solid and come in all Different Shapes and Sizes.

See some Lobster Claw Clasps below…

Lobster Claw Clasps

P.S. Always Check the Karat Stamp on the Lobster Clasp to see what the actual Metal is!

I Highly Recommend Lobsters!

If I sell a Chain that doesn’t have a Lobster Claw Clasp, I always Advise the Customer to Swap it out so they won’t have to Worry about their Chain or Pendant (Do Note that this is NOT an Even Exchange, an Upgrade in Clasps is More Expensive).

But, they do Protect your Valuables Better than any other Clasp (Which is Great especially if it’s a Diamond Solitaire Pendant! :)

2) They are Flat and Smooth

They not only Feel Good, Smooth to the Touch, but they won’t Snag or Catch your Clothing or Sweaters (Huge Bonus).

They Lay Flat on your Neck, Float across your Skin, and work with just about any and every Chain on the Market.

That’s Awesome!

3) Variety!

Guess What?

You can get Lobster Claw Clasps in just about Every Type of Metal on Earth…

Stainless Steel, White Gold, Yellow Gold, Rose Gold, Plated, Filed, Sterling Silver, Silver Tone… You Name it!

And… That Includes SOLID Gold, not just Plated or Filled (Which are what Spring Ring are).

Being Solid Gold means that it won’t Tarnish, Fade, Turn Colors, or Leave Stains or Black Marks on your Clothes or Skin.

Sure you can Buy Lobster Clasps in Plated or Filled (as well as Silver Tone), but I always Push Solid 14kt Gold the Most because they are Real Gold and will Last you a Lifetime (Unless the Spring inside Loses Tension, which can happen, but it’s Rare).

Plated Gold Clasps can also Affect people that are Allergic to Nickel in the Alloys. You Won’t have that Problem with 14kt Yellow or White Gold.

It’s Well Worth the Price!

4) Lobsters can be Soldered

If you Buy a Solid Gold Clasp, you CAN get those Clasps Soldered onto your Chain. Jewelers can put Torch Heat near these Clasps (You Can’t with Gold Filled or Plated), and they can Solder the Jump Ring that holds it on (A MUST DO).

Having it Soldered on so it will Never Pull Open is the Safest Clasp you can Own.

As shown below…

Lobster Claw Clasp Soldered Shut

Get them Soldered on, and if you get it Snagged on Something, or your Baby Yanks the Chain, it won’t Break or Drop to the Ground. Soldering it Shut is Great Peace of Mind!

5) Easy to Operate

Spring Rings can be a Pain to Open and Unhook

NOT LOBSTERS!

Lobster Clasps are Easy to Open (Which is Great because you can put your own Chain on Behind your Neck with no Problem).

People of all Ages LOVE the Lobster Claw and Generally can Take them On and Off in Seconds (Plus, the Larger the Clasp, the Easier it is to Hold).

But Wait, There’s More…

They even Sell Newer Versions of the Lobster Claw Clasp, called the Double Push Lobster Claw Clasp.

As shown below…

Double Push Lobster Clasp Claw

This type of Clasp uses Two Fingers to Operate. You have to Push both Buttons in at the Same Time to Unhook the Clasp. It’s Safer, but a Little Bit Trickier to Open.

Either way, the Lobster Claw Clasp is the Ideal Clasp for just about any Person, Pendant, or Chain.

If your Necklace or Bracelet doesn’t have a Lobster Claw, Buy One, and have a Jeweler Solder it on for you.

It’s That Simple!

2 Comments on 5 REASONS TO BUY A LOBSTER CLAW CLASP

  1. I adore lobster claw clasps, and have them put on every chain I own. The one thing I must be careful with, however, is the size of the clasp vs the size of the bail of any individual pendant I may have in mind to wear on a particular chain. Some I have are interchangeable for length, but others I only intend to wear one particular pendant on a particular chain. Those I have suspended from the chain before I get the clasp mounted on, so I make sure I get a clasp just slightly larger than the bail, so it can’t ever slip off accidentally! Then, with the jump ring soldered closed, that’s about as secure a mounting as you could ever ask for!
If at some point in the future, I need to make a change, my jeweler is less than five miles away, and always has a bench jeweler in-house during working hours. The third generation assistant manager – active manager really of a wonderful family owned jewelry store – is a very close friend, and has many bench skills herself and can take care of simple repairs if the Goldsmith is occupied. So, it’s rarely more than an hour’s proposition to make a change, or just remove a pendant. A few I can manage at home on my own, with my few basic tools – but no heat.
In no case have I ever had an issue with the lobster claw clasps, not even with wildly varying fingernail lengths. With acrylics, or without, it matters not. I can work a clasp like that no matter what. Can’t seem to do that with those other cheaper, thin, spring ring clasps. They don’t last as long, aren’t comfortable, and aren’t nearly as easy to operate without a mirror, or help!
Love your posts! I read them all!

    • Great Point Shari. I do that all the time with Chains and Pendants… Make sure the Jump Rings (the one on the End of the Chain, and the one attached to the Lobster Clasp) are Larger than the Bail itself. That way, a Jeweler can Remove one of the Jump Rings, Slide the Chain through the Bail, and Solder it back on making it Impossible for the Pendant to Come Free. You’ll Never Lose it! It’s a Really, Really Great Point, and I Thank you for Reminding me! :) -Richard
