I’ve often heard that Millennials (Gen-Y; Born 1981-1996), and Post Millennials (Born 1997-present) are not buying diamonds like the previous generations.
Is there any truth to this?
Absolutely not!
And why do I say this?
Because every generation needs engagement rings.
And if you’re confused about which generations are what, take a look at this:
- The Silent Generation – Born 1928-1945
- Baby Boomers – Born 1946-1964
- Generation X – Born 1965-1980
- Millennials (Gen-Y) – Born 1981-1996
- Post-Millennials – Born 1997-Present
Engagement rings are the backbone to the jewelry industry. Nothing says “I LOVE YOU” like a diamond ring. Women dream of getting that ring since the day they were born (just about)…
Granted styles and designs have changed dramatically over the last 20 years, but the attraction for gold and diamonds hasn’t reversed. With beautiful creations in Rose Gold, Yellow Gold, and White Gold, diamond rings are selling better than ever. The one thing that I have seen drop off the list is Platinum. That’s ultra-expensive, and there’s very little demand for it.
But with diamonds, it doesn’t matter the size of the stone, nor even the quality, diamonds are diamonds and most people get what they can afford anyway. Whether it be smaller stones, pave, a halo around the diamond… They all work, and they all sparkle and bling.
Just like these cool new rings below…
The average engagement ring sale is still the same; $3,000.
So if you’re thinking that diamonds are going out of style, and that the younger generation doesn’t want them…
THINK AGAIN!
Women still want diamonds, they still want “the ring“. Because diamonds are forever, and yes, they are a girl’s best friend.
That much has never changed.
