Purple Diamond VS White Diamond

FIGHT!

Let’s battle it out today, with an epic showdown:

Purple VS White

I’ve gone to James Allen to compare two very different diamonds: both 1 carats, cushion cuts, but one is a fancy purple diamond, and the other, a classic white.

Let the match begin:

The Purple Diamond…

Featured is an exquisite purple diamond that is a true fancy colored diamond. Meaning Mother Nature created the color, not man. It’s not been heat treated or color enhanced in the least (like the colored diamonds you find in mall jewelry stores). It’s natural, real, and that’s what makes it so rare, unique, and expensive.

The purple hue in fancy diamonds (also called fancies) is caused by a combo of 2 things: crystal lattice distortion and a high content of hydrogen. Those 2 things (along with the heat and pressure of the earth) give diamonds that rare purple body tone, one of the rarest colors in the world.

And when you’re grading fancy colored diamonds:

It’s all about the COLOR!

Clarity plays a very small role in the grading and pricing of fancies… It’s more about COLOR! Almost exclusively. And this particular diamond I choose… is a purple delight (purple/pink to be exact).

A 1.01 carat, cushion cut diamond, SI1 clarity, with even color distribution (the color looks the same throughout), excellent polish, very good symmetry, and a medium blue fluorescence.

Feast your eyes on this…

1 Carat Cushion Cut Fancy Purple Diamond

Truly a beautiful stone (and GIA certified).

But did you see that price?

$114,920.

WOWSERS!

For a 1 carat? That’s how unbelievably rare these diamonds are…

$114,920

Affordable, right?

Now let’s compare…

The 1 Carat White Diamond

It’s a one carat, pure white, and one of the lowest priced diamonds at the time of this post (there was actually one cheaper, but it sold within hours)

Take a peek at this cushion cut diamond

1 Carat Cushion Cut F Color Diamond

Isn’t that a hoot?

Same weight, better clarity; VVS1 (one of the best clarities you can buy – right underneath Flawless). And the color… F. Colorless. Pure-white (no color in the diamond whatsoever). So we go from one extreme to the other.

And that Price… Another WOW! Just $4,740

That’s over $100,000 LESS then the purple diamond shown.

Same weight, different color, go figure. Would you ever imagine there would be such a huge price difference?

It’s Insane. Outstanding!

Either stone would look beautiful in an engagement ring, for sure. And there really is no true winner… For the real “battle” will be in your pocketbook, right?

So if you’re looking for a killer purple diamond, and money is not a concern, then grab one of the rarest purple diamonds on earth.

Because with these stunning diamonds…

We all come out the Winner!
