Want a little Diamond 101 NOW?

Well, did you know that GIA (The Gemological Institute of America), has an App?

GIA are the founders of the 4C’s. They devised the system that jewelers use today. So there’s no one better suited to teach and train you, then the people who wrote the book.

And now, you can carry that information at your fingertips…

And… The GIA App is FREE!

GIA’s a neat little app will teach you all about Diamonds, the 4C’s: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. Plus they have their very cool Report Checker on the App, which I highly advise using if you’re buying a GIA Certified stone, as well as Videos, Retailer Lookup, and more.

The App from iTunes works with: iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, iOS 4.3 or later. Sadly, it doesn’t show that it’s been optimized for the IOS 7 or 9 (What are they waiting for?)

It’s a wealth of info!

Info that can help you make a great buying decision

Like, is I1, F, a good diamond to buy?

Look at the chart and find out…

Get the GIA App HERE at iTunes Today!

Cheers! :)

  1. So, us Droid/Google Chrome based users are again left out flapping in the breeze? What is UP with that? They think ONLY Apple users are out there buying diamonds? IRS a shame such a huge portion of their potential market share get ignored yet again! Happens a lot with the “upscale” and even some of the not-so-upscale vendors and service suppliers who seem to think for whatever reason, that WE don’t matter. Hmph.
This reminds me of the time I walked into a large appliance store, many years ago, in search of a new dishwasher for my house. The one in it when we moved in was old, and “gave it up” about 2 months later. We had purchased our refrigerator at this same store and had been granted a charge card for the store with a $5,000 credit limit! I was alone when I went shopping, because I had done my research on dishwashers and knew pretty well what I wanted, and they had it. I don’t like shopping alone with my purse, because there’s nobody else I can hand it to if I want to put it down to examine something closer, and I also don’t like to be spotted as a potential purse snatching victim. So, I had put my charge card and my driver’s license in my pocket and locked my purse up in the trunk of my car before I went in.
As I entered the store, I looked around for the dishwashers, and for salespeople at the same time. I took my time, hoping to catch someone’s eye as I walked over to the section I was seeking. There was a group of salesmen (all men) hanging out in a far corner of the store, having themselves a fine old chat, but I couldn’t catch anyone’s eye, no matter how long I tried. I wandered around, examining the dishwashers on the sales floor, WAITING for someone to approach me and offer their assistance. Not ONE ever did.
I was there for TWENTY minutes. I clocked it. After twenty minutes, I approached them, reached in my pocket to retrieve my charge card, held it up for all of them to see, and said “It’s a real shame nobody wanted to make any sales or commissions tonight, because this card has $5,000 on it, and I could have bought the most expensive dishwasher you carry, if someone had cared enough to go over there where I have been for the last twenty minutes waiting!” The looks on those faces was really one for the text books on how to LOSE a customer! I turned and walked away while THREE of them followed me, hemming and hawing, trying to “explain” and offering to do everything except shine my shoes. And I left.
A couple of nights later, I returned with my husband in tow, and my purse on my arm. As soon as WE hit the doorway, three different people were all over us. I asked to speak to the sales manager. They all looked a little puzzled, but went off to fetch him for us. In the meantime, we walked over to the dishwashers, and were sort of idly looking around. Well, guess who comes walking up with his best “I’m the manager” smile in his face? One of that group all huddled up amongst themselves two nights before!! I definitely recognized HIM. He introduced himself, shaking hands all around, and asked how he could help? I asked him if I didn’t look a little familiar, and he says “Why yes! Weren’t you in here the other night?” And sort of gulps hard. I said “Yes! And WE just stopped by to let you know WHY we won’t be buying a new dishwasher from your store!” He looked confused for a second and started to say something but I stopped him. I told him that #1 you NEVER assume just from someone’s appearance or the fact that a woman comes in alone, that they are not a potentially valuable customer! When I came in alone, I was completely ignored, but when I walked in WITH a man, all of a sudden, that completely changes my worth to your store! Do you not realize that WOMEN control most of the pursestrings in any household? And just because I’m here with a man tonight, how do you know he’s not my brother? Or my bodyguard?”
He’s looking rather sheepish at this point. I said, “There is nothing you can do to change my mind about the abominable experience I had in this store the other night. I will be going elsewhere to make my purchase of a brand new dishwasher. I guess if YOU guys can give me a charge card worth $5,000, so can (and I named a competitor just down the street!)” We turned to leave, and he was all over himself trying to apologize for what had happened, but I wasn’t budging. I turned as we left, and told him to just consider this a very costly lesson, and to use it to show the others what NOT to do!
And we went and bought a new dishwasher from the guys down the street. With a brand new charge card they were just too, too happy to give us!!
I guess the point of all that is to never assume from outside appearances, ANYTHING about your prospective audience or customers. I even thought that this GIA business might be a misguided attempt to sift out only the richest and most affluent customers, simply by vi6rtue of which electronic equipment they choose. But I know more children with Apple products than adults, and more adults using Google Chrome and Droid devices! So, who are they really reaching?

  2. Well Amazon Fire is actually their Kindle book reader, like the B&N Nook, and Google Play is what makes it compatible with Droid/Google based platforms like mine! So, I guess that pretty much covers everybody, doesn’t it?
But, my point still stands in that so many of these apps are Apple based only, and completely incompatible with the rest of us.
While I was waiting on this one to download and install, which it did nicely, by the way, I saw in the usual list of “these apps were also downloaded by people who used this one” or apps similar, and there were a few connected with Rappaport in there! I’m sure you’ve already got every useful app available for your market, but I always thought that the Raps were akin to the Kelly Blue Book or the others like it available only to car dealers!
Glad to see though that they didn’t leave us out flapping in the breezes after all!
