Let’s compare…
Today, we’re going to compare not just diamonds, but the top graded diamond clarities in the world; Flawless and Internally Flawless.
These 2 clarities are so rare they make up 2% of all the gem quality diamonds mined from the Earth.
2% is super rare.
Compare these two identical diamonds (except for clarity) below:
(Prices good at the time of this post.)
CARAT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, POL, SYM, FLUOR | VIEW |
1.00, FL, E, EX, EX, EX, NONE | VIEW |
1.00, IF, E, EX, EX, EX, NONE | VIEW |
There’s a 2 grand difference…
Now the question becomes:
Is there a 2 grand visual difference between them?
They’re both D color, the best in the world. They’re bright, white, and stunning…
But side by side, they could be twins. Except for the price tag.
Take another look at 2 identical diamonds with G color:
CARAT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, POL, SYM, FLUOR | VIEW |
1.00, FL, G, EX, EX, EX, NONE | VIEW |
1.00, IF, G, EX, EX, EX, NONE | VIEW |
Can you tell the difference?
No, again. Here’s why…
There is no difference inside the diamonds (what you’re seeing above). They are both perfectly clean under 10 magnification. The only difference between them is that Internally Flawless are only flawless, internally. Internally Flawless diamonds have some blemish on the surface of the stone (the outside). It could be a natural, a pit, a trigon, grain lines… Some flaw that can be seen under a microscope, at just the right angle and the right light, of course. They’re small, barely noticeable, but still identifiable. That’s the difference.
So is flawless worth it?
Maybe, it all depends on you.
But here’s one more secret:
6 of all the clarity grades on the market resemble a Flawless diamond.
It’s true… Any diamond SI1 or higher will look just like a Flawless diamond without magnification. That’s because all of the flaws in SI1 or higher are microscopic.
So unless you use a microscope or a 10x jeweler’s loupe, you’ll never see the difference between them.
This is why SI1 clarity is the most popular clarity there is.
Compare the two diamonds below:
Now the price is shocking!
CARAT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, POL, SYM, FLUOR | VIEW |
1.00, FL, D, EX, EX, EX, NONE | VIEW |
1.00, SI1, D, EX, EX, EX, NONE | VIEW |
Flawless or not…
Does it matter to you?
Maybe if you microscoped them, as in the diamonds above. But to the bare eye… You’d have a hard time choosing between them. Except for the pocketbook.
If you have money to blow…
Instead of clarity, put your money into cut.
Cut = Sparkle
The better the cut, the better the brilliance, fire, and scintillation. Cut is where it’s at.
And the best diamond cut is the True Hearts diamond.
Just like these diamonds below:
CARAT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, POL, SYM, FLUOR | VIEW |
1.00, SI1+, G+, TRUE HEARTS, EX, EX, NONE | VIEW |
Now those do have a visible difference. They will knock your socks off.
Cheers! :)
