JEWELERS TOOLS OF THE TRADE

I’ve decided to put together a post about Jeweler’s Tools of the Trade.

While most of these items are geared towards actual Jeweler’s and Jewelry Stores, normal folk, Gem Enthusiasts, Wax Carvers, Jewelry Designers, and Artists may find a lot of these Tools Quite Useful as well.

They are the Essentials that no Jeweler can live without!

Okay, maybe 1 or 2 they can live without, but I assure you, walk into any Independent Jewelry Store today and you’re bound to find them all.

Not only are these the Gadgets that Jewelers use on a Daily Basis, but a Good Portion of these lean towards Diamond Grading purposes! (A Jeweler’s Main Task)

Which also means, if you have Diamonds yourself, such as an Engagement Ring, Wedding Set, Loose Certified Diamond, and you want to VERIFY the Stones and match them to the Appraisal or Diamond Report (Certificate), these are the Tools that will help you do it!

Some of these Tools are Quite Expensive. They’re meant to be! They aren’t meant for the Average Joe at home, they are Quality Goods of Commercial Grade.

So if you’re setting up your own Store, Pawn Shop, Estate Jewelers, or Coin Dealership, pick up some of these Puppies. They will help your career immensely, and in the long run, Save you Time, Effort and Money!

They’re worth every Penny!

So here we go…

The Tools of the Trade!

First up… Tweezers! :)

Diamond Tweezers:

You MUST get yourself a bunch of Tweezers. Ones that will hold Diamonds and Gemstones and allow you to Pick them up, Lock them in, Rotate them, View them and Grade Stones.

This Mix of Different Tweezers is the Perfect Starting Point for any Jeweler or any Gem Enthusiast!

Diamond Testers:

Buy yourself a Diamond – Moissanite Tester! It will help Identify if a Stone is a Diamond, Moissanite (Diamond look-a-like), or something else like a Cubic Zirconia (CZ).

Make sure you get a Tester like this one that can Distinguish between a Diamond and Moissanite! You don’t want to Mistake them!

Color Grading Kit:

These are a MUST! The Master Diamond Color Grading Kit comes with 10 stones for GIA Color Grading! Each Stone is Laser Inscribed to clearly Identify the Order of the Colors.

P.S. You don’t need a “D“, because any Stone Whiter than an E is automatically a D. :)

Brass Sliding Gauge:

Brass Sliding Gauges are great for Measuring the Millimetre Sizes of Stones, both Width and Height, and they are also Perfect for Measuring ring widths, Pendants, Chains, and anything else that would need an Exact mm Size.

This Brass Gauge is Easy to Operate and Measures up to 86 mm.

Gem Dial Gauge:

Every Jeweler needs a Diamond and Gem Analog Dial Gauge. A Good Stainless Steel Gauge will last you Forever! This Gauge measures 1-23 mm, and has a 0.1 Accuracy!

Great for Measuring the Width of Stones, Mounted or Loose where Accuracy is Vital and Important! :)

Digital Gem Gauge:

Presidium Digital Gemstone Gauges (Electronic) are probably the most Accurate Gauges that Exist. They are very Simple to use. One Button turns it on and it’s Accurate up to 1/100 mm. That’s Impressive!

Jeweler’s Scale:

Diamond Gauge:

This Diamond Gauge is a Very Versatile Gauge for Mountings and Stones. It has Cut out Holes for Measuring Gemstones and Diamonds and it also has Extensions for Gauging Mountings (seeing what Size Stones will Fit into a Head or Mounting).

One side is marked with Carat Sizes, while the other side has Millimetre.

Ring Sizer Mandrel:

This Ring Sizer Mandrel is 12″ Long, Graduated, and Measures Rings for Sizes 1-15 (that’s a Pretty Big Ring). Made of Heavy Duty Stainless Steel, you won’t ever have to worry about Replacing it.
