Service Plans are for Jewelry Repairs, and are often called “Extended service Plans (ESP’s for Short) in Most Nationwide Retail Jewelry Stores.

Today, let’s take a closer look at Kay Jewelers (Since they are about the Largest Jeweler in the World) and their ESP’s.

Is it Worth the Price?

Do you Need one?

Does it Matter?

Let’s Jump in…

Kay’s Service Plan Starts at $19.99, and it goes all the way up to $399.99, depending on the Amount of Purchase.

As seen here:

So if you Buy a $6,000 Diamond Engagement Ring, the Service Plan is going to Cost you $299.99.

It seems like a lot of Money for a Plan that will Cover Simple Repairs…

But I Beg to Differ!

• The Repair being Done at the Time doesn’t Cost More than the Origianl Purchase Price.
• Any Repairs Needed are Caused by Normal Wear and Tear, no Excessive Abuse or Damange (Run over by a Train).

Also note that the Service Plan Does NOT Cover the Cost of Broken, Chipped, or Lost Gemstones or Diamonds!!! (That’s a Part of their OTHER Warranty, the Diamond and Stone Warranty)

It only Covers the Repairs, Parts, and Labor Needed to Repair the Item back to Wearable Condition!

Also Note…

The Repairs MUST be done at an Authorized Kay Jewelers Store and NOT anywhere else (that would actually VOID the Plan!)

Let’s Say you Wear your Ring for a Couple of Years and you take it in for a Routine Cleaning and Inspection (Which I Recommend doing at least 2 Times a Year, and a Diamond Guarantee would Demand that it’s done every Six Months anyway to Uphold the Requirements).

The Salesperson Inspects your Ring and says that the Stone is Loose and your Prongs are all Low.

Which also means “GOODBYE RING!”

For if Work Needs to be Done, it has to be Sent out Immediately to be Covered under Warranty! (Otherwise YOU Pay!)

“It MUST Be Repaired NOW!”

She asks you if you have their Extended Service Plan?

Hopefully you say “YES“, because otherwise this is what it Could Cost you:

That Price ($215.94) would Cover the Cost of Retipping 6 Prongs (This Price is an Estimate at the time of this Post, it could vary from Store to Store and Location to Location).

So Retipping those Prongs Costs over $200, and a Couple of Years down the Road, if you need to get them Retipped again (which will happen), that’s ANOTHER $215.94!

Or if you Need to get the Ring Sized up (You’re Pregnant – Congrats!), that’s $49.99.

A New Head is $126.00!

Just one Stone Tightening is $40.00!
