Jewelry Gumball Vending Machine Plastic Rings

Remember when you could buy a ring for a quarter?

You know, those little plastic rings out of a vending machine?

(They always came in a plastic capsule egg.)

When I was a kid, I had one.

A black spider ring

I loved it!

My sister though, she hated it.

Well, she hated all spiders.

When did things change?

Why aren’t those 25 cent plastic rings good enough for adults?

Kids have no problems with them…

My sister would wear this plastic jewel rings that had a 5 carat gemstone. She would laugh and say someday she’d own the real thing.

Isn’t plastic a ‘real’ thing?

Does ‘real’ actually mean real expensive?

Would we feel dumb if we wore those plastic rings and jewelry now?

What about a Mickey Mouse watch?

“Hey, wait a minute…

I own a Mickey Mouse watch…

The point is, as we grow up, so do our tastes. Everything in life is like that. We upgrade to bigger and better things. Apartments to homes. Small cars to luxury cars. 1 dog to 5 dogs, 2 cats, a bird and 2 kids… (some of us upgrade to the extreme.)

Diamonds and jewelry is no different.

They need upgraded too.

When was the last time you upgraded yours?

For many people it’s never.

Some people get a ring and wear that same ring for the rest of their lives.

This is all fine and dandy, but don’t you think that the diamond ring you bought 30 years ago deserves a face lift? 30 years ago you bought what you could afford. Now that you can afford better things, so why don’t you?

I know, kids education, paying off that truck, the second mortgage, braces, a patio deck…

But no time is any better than the present.

Seriously. In fact, now is the best time for an upgrade because jewelers are hurting. The economy has taken its toll on the industry and stores are feeling the pain. Which is why they are ready to wheel and deal. Diamonds haven’t been this low in 30 years (check out these awesome deals on 1 carat diamonds here).

They’re hungry for a sale.

This is great news for you.

Think about it. You can save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars by shopping now while the economy is down.

Take advantage of this.

Sooner or later the rates and prices will go up. There is no better opportunity than now.

Look at your rings. Aren’t some of them tired and worn?

Ancient?

Wouldn’t a nice, big diamond ring do the trick?

Maybe a new mounting? Different metal? White gold perhaps? Rose gold? Something creative, modern and fun?

I say go for it.

It doesn’t need to be expensive or elaborate. No one is saying spend your life-long earnings (although you could). Just spend enough to upgrade nicely. Get the next step up. A little bit bigger diamond. Something that will carry you for another 20 years. Why not?

You could always go back to that plastic eye-ball ring

But I think it’s time for your dream ring.

What do you think?

Cheers! :)

  1. I remember those!! The gumball machine rings, I mean. And another thing I remember about them is this – they always had the real eye-catchers – the really pretty ones, that looked like big engagement rings, wedding rings, birthstone rings, etc., on the front display inside the machine, to tempt you into buying….to spend your last precious quarter…this was the early to mid 60’s for me, when I could get a banana or cherry popsicle from the ice cream truck for SIX CENTS each, or .36 for 6 days worth! (He didnt come around on Sundays.) So, for me, a quarter was a lot of money!

But that ring was SO pretty, and it wouldn’t melt and run down my arm in the sun like a popsicle would! So, in goes my one and only quarter, and I turn that chrome plated knob round and round forever before that plastic egg pops into the chute. The door lifts up, the egg falls into my hand…and I can see through the plastic….eeeeeeewwwwww!!! It’s an EYEBALL ring!

But, I guess I can use it to trade with somebody else for something I really want. I never did get any of the pretty rings out of those machines! I think they were “loaded!” You know – just put one or two of the pretty rings, which probably cost more too, inside the machine, and fill it up with the icky, dumb ones! The kind only the BOYS would like!

Boy, we should HAVE such problems as adults! But, we can also get the REAL pretty, sparkly, shiny rings too, as adults!
