I always tell Customers that you could put an SI1 Clarity Diamond up against a Flawless Diamond and you’d never know the Difference!

SI1 Clarity Diamonds and Higher are so Similar in Appearance that they Would Literally Appear Identical!

This is because any Diamond SI1 or Higher (SI1, VS2, VS1, VVS2, and VVS1) have…

Microscopic Flaws ONLY!

So to the Naked Eye, YES, they’d look Alike.

(Assuming that all the other Diamond Traits are the Same)

So it’s a Great Selling Point for SI1 Clarity Stones. If you can’t see a “Visible Difference” between the 2 Stones, then WHY Spend the Money?

And believe me, there is a BIG Difference in Price!

I do make it a Point to Inform Customers that this is a Visual Difference WITHOUT Magnification! Which means, that if you were to Microscope these Diamonds, then YES, you WOULD see a Difference…

SI1 Clarity Diamonds do have Easy to Spot Flaws under 10x Magnification. That’s what makes them SI1 versus a Higher Clarity.

But Flawless Diamonds, and Internally Flawless Diamonds (Pretty much the Same Except for a Few Blemishes on the Surface of the Stone), will look just about PERFECT under a Microscope or 10x Jeweler’s Loupe. You won’t see any Flaws Whatsoever!

But…

Is There Really a BIG Difference?

YES and NO!

It all Depends on the Actual Stone.

Some Diamonds Face up Better

You see, some Diamonds Face up WAY Better than others of the Same Clarity Grade. Some catch the Light Better, and look Bigger and Brighter.

And, just like Freckles and Moles on People, Flaws and Imperfections look Different from Stone to Stone as well. Some look White in Appearance (the Best Kind of Flaws), others look Black (Which Makes them Easier to See).

Some have Feathers, Pin Points, Clouds and Needles. Fun Stuff that Help Identify a Diamond.

But these Flaws can be all Different Shapes, Sizes, Lengths, Positions, and Colors.

So Believe me when I say, that even under 10x Magnification, it is Quite Possible to Find some SI1 Clarity Diamonds that Face up just like a FLAWLESS Stone!

Almost Shocking isn’t it?

Even under a Microscope, a Diamond with Internal Flaws can look almost FLAWLESS???

To Prove my Theory, let’s Play a Game…

I’ll show you TWO Diamonds at a time. One Diamond being SI1 Clarity, the other Diamond being Internally Flawless. Your Job is to Choose which Stone is the SI1 Clarity.

Both Diamonds will have the EXACT SAME Cut (Excellent), Color (F), Polish (Excellent), Symmetry (Excellent), Certification (GIA), and Carat Weight (1.00 Carat – Give or take a Couple of Points)

Now you may have to look at a Bunch of SI1 Clarity Diamonds to find a Better Appearing Stone, but they’re out there…

If I were to Guess, I’d say you did Pretty Good. That’s because SI1 is NOT Flawless, and they DO have Identifying Marks and Characteristics.

But, this is of course under 10x Magnification.

Without a Microscope you’d probably NEVER know the Difference!
