Need a Bigger Size?
Most people do as they age, their rings get tighter, they need a bigger ring size…
Well, now you CAN stretch that gold band and make it bigger YOURSELF!
Really you can!
For they sell ring stretchers that will effectively take your ring or wedding band up a size or two (which really depends on the thickness of your band to begin with).
It’s fairly simple to do!
You stick your plain band (plain works best, if your ring has any kind of engraving, details, designs, or stones it could ruin it!), onto the ring sizer, insert the steel pole and twist it (tighten it)… The ring stick will open up, stretching your ring in the process.
It really is that easy!
This is very similar to what the jewelers use. Gold bands work the best, for the metal is malleable enough to stretch. And you can normally take a ring up anywhere from 1/2 size to a couple of sizes without doing any damage to the ring. Granted, you will probably have to remove the ring, flip it around so both sides of the ring get enlarged evenly, but it will stretch it! No doubt!
A couple other items that will also help this process are: Jeweler’s Mallets (to beat your rings down onto the sizer to stretch them), A Steel Mandrell (Ring Stick so you know what size your ring is), Finger Sizers (So you know what size you’ll need).

(P.S. They also sell entire kits that you can buy that contain everything together)

Great post! As per usual, of course! I’ve had several (I collect them) plain and milgrain band rings resized this way, in gold AND in heavy sterling and Argentium silver, and you couldn’t tell a thing had been done to them. As a matter of fact, it’s the ONLY way to get a milgrain band sized in either direction, although sizing up works best.
I used to have a 6mm heavy comfort fit double milgrain band in yellow 14kt gold that was a size and a half too small. (I got it on eBay for a song, considering its weight!) I took it to my friend in the jewelry store, and asked her if they could do it, and she said “Sure!” She took it in the back, and about 15 minutes later it was being repolished and shined up, and it was perfect! Not a wrinkle or a mark anywhere on it. Of course, they used the professional version of the resizer, but this kind will work if you don’t want to fork over $1,100.00 for one!
Unfortunately, later I sold it, and a handful of others, when the economy hit the dirt, and after gold went through the roof. I miss it.
Oh well. Maybe there is another one out there waiting for me someplace. I’ve already found some NICE ones in Sterling silver that look fabulous!
