THE CLARITY OF EARRINGS

Diamond earrings are a very unique piece of jewelry for one specific reason:

People don’t get close enough to see them.

Everything else that you own; rings, bracelets, pendants, watches, people will lean in and really inspect them. They’ll get so close that they can see every detail; inclusions, black spots, cracks, flaws…

But not on earrings.

No one grabs your earlobe and tugs to get their eye an inch away (can you imagine?) So this leads to a very good eye-opener…

The diamonds don’t need to be so clean (meaning, high clarity).

And, since most diamonds look the same from a distance anyway; you can’t tell if they’re flawless, or included.

So with earrings, clarity is not a big issue (unlike an engagement ring).

This is why 95% of all diamond studs are I clarity. I clarity means included. They have eye-visible flaws that you can see with your own eyes (no need for a microscope or a 10x jeweler’s loupe.

I clarity is made up of 3 different clarity grades: I1, I2, and I3. I would only recommend I1, for these are borderline SI clarity diamonds, and will face up much cleaner and brighter.

Sure, up close, you may see some flaws or carbon in I1 clarity, but on your ears, they’ll look great, have sparkle, and come at a much lower price tag then higher quality diamonds.

Visually, there really isn’t that much difference between them. But it will save you hundreds of dollars depending on the carat weight you choose (also keep in mind, 1 carat diamond studs are a half carat apiece, totaling one full carat).

The best way to shop for these studs, is to make your own. Pick the diamonds you want (I recommend white diamonds, I1 or better), and enjoy the brilliance and savings.
