THE DIAMOND CUT IS “WHAT?”

THE DIAMOND CUT IS NOT THE DIAMOND SHAPE

The Diamond Cut Is What Cut?

You know how to tell a Good Jewelry Salesperson from a Bad?

Point to a Diamond Solitaire in the Showcase and ask them What the “CUT” is.

Chances are 90% of the time, you’ll hear them say:

“That’s a Brilliant Cut Diamond”

(Or “Marquise Cut” or “Princess Cut“, whatever the Shape may be)

But, they could even be Simpler

They could say:

“The Cut is Round”

“Say What?”

Many Salespeople that Show and Sell Diamonds Know Very Little about “Diamond Cut”, and will Simply Refer to the Shape of the Stone as the “Cut” of the Diamond and Nothing Else.

It’s an Oval Cut!

They look at you and Smile

Doesn’t it Sparkle?

Sure… But that my Friends is the End of the Discussion about CUT!

Sad, But True!

Every now and then you’ll find a Salesperson that will go into Cut with a Little Bit more Detail. They’ll Briefly Explain to you that Cut will Affect the Overall Sparkle of the Diamond (Very True), and they’ll pull out a Nifty Diagram (similar to the one shown below) that Shows if a Diamond is too Deep or too Shallow, the Diamond will Lose Light, hence, Losing Sparkle, Brilliance, and Fire (also True).

The Way A Diamond Is Cut

And that’s THAT!

This is probably the MOST Diamond Info you’ll ever hear about Cut (Unless you Read my Website).

It’s Pretty Cut and Dry!

Many Jewelry Salespeople know nothing more than this Vague Explanation that provides Very little Insight.

A Very Brief Statement about “CUT” (That doesn’t really Pertain to the Actual Diamond they’re showing you) and then it’s on to Color and Clarity (Easier Topics to Digest).

You won’t know if that Diamond is Spread, a Poor Make, or if it has an Uneven Girdle.

Noneya

The Salesperson won’t tell what the Diamond Cut is, they won’t Compare Stones so you can see the Difference for yourself. And they certainly (99% of the time) won’t show you the Diamond under a Microscope so you can see what it is you’re Buying (And Trust me, You WANT to see the Diamond Magnified FIRST!)

All you get is the Sizzle, the Romance, and “It’s Such a Pretty Stone!

Sigh!

They’ll point to the Certificate and talk about their Great Warranties, Service, and Interest Free Financing… With a Big Warm Smile of course…

And all you really wanted to know was:

“What’s the Cut?”

So Listen up…

Cut is NOT Shape!

For Example, Cut is NOT “Cushion Cut” (even though it does Officially have “Cut” attached to its Name like these Cushion Cut Diamonds HERE!)

The Cut of a Stone is NOT Round, Square, Oval, Triangle, or Heart Shaped…

The Cut is the Actual Faceting of the Stone. The Depth. The Width. The Proportions, Angles, Thickness, Girdle, Culet, Crown, Table, Star Facets, Pavilion… (See image below)

GIA Diamond Cut Profile

The WAY a Diamond is Cut is the CUT!

NOT “ROUND”

So if a Salesperson blows off “CUT” as something Non-Important and Vague, I would Shop Somewhere Else!

Easy as that!

Diamonds are Priced and Sold Depending on ALL the Diamond 4C’s: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. Cut is as Important (Actually the MOST Important C) than all the other 4C’s.

Cut really does Impact and Determine How a Diamond Sparkles the MOST!

Cut Creates Brilliance Sparkle And Fire

That Sparkle IS the Life of a Diamond

Without Sparkle, you’d have nothing but a Boring, Lifeless Rock… You might as well Wear a Stone from your Driveway

Just look at any GIA Diamond Report and you’ll see the Cut Grades, along with the Symmetry and Polish Grades. Look for them all to say “EXCELLENT” if you truly want your Diamond to Shine.

An Excellent Cut Certified Diamond

CUT = SPARKLE!

The Better the Cut (And I only Truly Advise “Triple Excellent Cut Grades“), the More your Diamond will Sparkle.

Concentrate on CUT. Cut will make any Quality of Stone (Color and Clarity) look BETTER!
