“WS?”
I see this Question come up all the time in my Google Analytics
“What is Diamond Clarity WS?“
You would be Surprised at how many times this shows up.
So then, what is WS?
WS is Nothing.
It’s Nonsense!
There is no WS Clarity!
Confused? Don’t be… There is a Good Explanation! :)
Why do People Search for WS Clarity?
Because they see WS on Appraisals, Certificates, Websites and Advertisements. They see it and Want to Learn more about it.
But the Truth is, they’re all Reading it Wrong. They aren’t actually seeing WS…
It’s VVS Instead!
(That’s V V S)
Doing a Quick Search brings up this…
Google Search for the Word WS Clarity and you’ll see that ehow has Misread VVS, other Websites (like Indiamart) have Inaccurately Identified WS Clarity, and even GOOGLE has Translated their Books Falsely and Input WS Instead!
Bad Google!
In VVS Clarity (That’s two V’s and one S), the V’s are side by side, and often with Very Little Spacing Depending on the Font or Type used. The VVS then gives the Appearance of WS instead. Mistaken Identity!
So what then is VVS Clarity?
VVS Clarity is a GIA Grade called Very, Very, Slightly Included. It basically means that the Diamond is Very Clean with just a couple of Small Flaws or Inclusions Visible Only under 10x Magnification (with a Jeweler’s Loupe or a Microscope).
VVS is Broken down into 2 Categories: VVS1 and VVS2 (Level 1 and Level 2).
VVS1 is the Higher Rating (directly underneath Internally Flawless Diamonds). It’s about the Best Clarity grade on the Market. It’s Very Rare and Very Expensive.
Finding any Flaws in a Diamond of this Grade is also Very Difficult. You really have to Search the Stone well to find any Slight Fault. To most people, especially ones with Untrained Eyes, they will View a VVS Diamond and believe that they are Flawless or as Perfect as can be. They Aren’t, but they are Close! :)
VVS1 Diamonds
Here are a couple of different VVS1 Diamonds of different Color Grades and Carat Weights just so you can see where they stand…
CARAT WEIGHT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERTIFIED | PRICE | VIEW |
.50, VVS1, E, EXCELLENT, GIA | $2,300 | VIEW |
.75, VVS1, E, EXCELLENT, GIA | $4,850 | VIEW |
1.04, VVS1, E, EXCELLENT, GIA | $12,000 | VIEW |
E Color ROCKS
Personally, I always Lean towards an E Color. E Color makes any Diamond Whiter and Brighter, especially those of Higher Clarity.
But I will say this:
VVS1 Clarity is NOT Really Necessary!!!
In Fact, you could Drop Down 1 Entire Grade and get a VS1 Clarity Grade instead and no one would ever see the difference (unless you Microscoped them).
See where VVS and VS Clarity Grades show up on the Diamond Clarity Chart…
Every difference between VVS and VS would only be seen under 10x Magnification (As James Allen Shows with their Diamonds). So to most, the only difference you’d see is in the Price! :)
That’s why I say, Go For VS1 Clarity. Save the Money.
Put your Bucks into E Color Instead!
You’ll be happy you did.
VS1 Clarity, E Color is My Favorite Diamond Quality to Recommend. I Love them. I think they are Incredible Stones, and once you see them, I’m sure you’ll Agree.
