Double Color?
This is something you don’t hear about everyday. In fact, you could practically go an entire lifetime and never hear the phrase “Double-Color” diamond.
So what is Double-Color?
Why is it called that?
Because of one natural trait…
You see, some diamonds have strong fluorescence, like the diamond shown below…
This strong fluorescence not only allows diamonds to glow-in-the-dark (as shown above), but it can make the diamonds appear differently in natural light versus incandescent light, too. Sometimes the diamond will appear whiter, or foggy (see diamond in natural light above)…
And often, this crazy phenomenon can also make the diamond do something else:
Appear like two Different Colors!
As you shift from one type of light to another (Incandescent Bulbs, Fluorescent Bulbs, Halogen Bulbs, LED’s, Sunlight…), the diamond could change its hue… From bronze or yellow in one light, to green or blue in another (see image below).
These diamonds are also known as Chameleon Diamonds for their transi-chromatic color shifts.
Go from a darker room, to a lighter; step outside, view your diamond, it may change colors before your very eyes.
To tell if your diamond has strong fluorescence, just glance at the diamond report.
Or, you could just buy yourself a black light (UV light) and shine it towards your stone.
It’s Cool to See!
That is, unless it makes your diamond appear foggy or cloudy…
Then, you’d really be sad and, well, BLUE!
Cheers! :)
