Where Can You Sell Your Gold?

There are tons of places everywhere that you can sell your old Gold or scrap Gold to.
Literally THOUSANDS of places, retail businesses, shops and online stores will Buy your Gold, Platinum or Silver for a Fair Scrap Metal Market Price.

But HOW do you know if you’re Getting the Best Deal?

The only way to truly be sure…

Is to Check around!

Don’t just settle on the first place that gives you a price. Spend an afternoon and travel around to all the local shops that buy Gold, and see what they offer.

Do note that it doesn’t matter what condition the gold is in, because these places aren’t Buying the Gold to Resell it, they’re Scraping the Goods and Sending it to a Gold Refinery for Purification and Melt down.

Which means, they’ll Buy Broken Pieces, Bent Rings, Twisted Chains, Busted Clasps, even Bits and Pieces of Repairs (like Chunks left over from Ring Resizings). It’s just going into one Big Lump for Melt.

But YOU have to do the Leg Work!

You have to check out all the places to Find the Best Deals.

Keep in mind, the Gold market fluctuates DAILY, so if a store offers you $1,000 (as an example) for your Gold one day, they may offer you way less the next day when you go back.

That’s just the way the Market goes!

So I’ve put together some Tips to Help Ensure you get the most for your Jewelry. Here we go…

Prices are for Gold ONLY!

The prices they give you are ONLY for Gold (or Silver or Platinum… the actual Metals) and NOT the Stones, Gems or Diamonds in the Pieces. Places that state they Buy Gold, and only Gold, will give you Zilch for your Stones.

So if you think the Stones are worth anything, have them removed from the Mountings first. That way you can either Resell them at a Jeweler, online (like Ebay or Craigslist), or use them as Trade-ins or set into other Pieces of Fine Jewelry.

Test and Divide

< Test and Divide your Pieces up before hand. Keep all 14k items in one Pouch, 10k in another, Silver in another…

That way it’s easy for them to figure out and weight the items. Plus, you can get a break down on the items and know that everyone is Weighing and Pricing your Goods evenly and properly.

Understand that just because an item is stamped 14k or 10k (or whatever the stamp may be), that doesn’t actually mean that the item is what the marking says. Many pieces could be miss-marked, stamped wrong (to rip people off), or just be illegible.

No matter, Test the items with Gold Testers, (and weigh them with a Digital Scale) or have a Jewelry Store do it for you to Guarantee that all the items in the Pouch are the same type of Metal and that they’re all REAL.

P.S. Often a Clasp will be 10k and the Chain itself will be 14k, you have to check both items!

Lastly…

Check Around QUICKLY!

Like I said, the market changes often! If you wait too long, you’ll miss your Opportunity to Sell.

Also, don’t expect a lot of money unless you have a lot of decent Karat Weight or Gram Weight.

The more you have, the more you’ll get!

So go through your jewelry box, grab out all your old Rings, Brooches, Anklets, Earrings (even Earring Backs), and make your way to the Jewelry Stores, Antique Shops, and even the Coin Dealers (which is where the Best Prices are around me).

Also note that many Stores (Online and Real Stores) likes Helzberg (see my full review here) Buys Gold as well.

If you need money, and you have a lot of Jewelry that you don’t wear just sitting around collecting dust, SELL THEM!

Take advantage of the grand market. Go to 5 or 6 places and see who has the best offer.

Some Stores Offer little or nothing for your Gold!

Some places offer way less than everyone else just because they may do less business than other stores. They could have less money on hand (maybe it’s Sunday and the banks are closed). They could just not be in need of 100 Grams of 10k… You just don’t know. It’s not that they’re ripping you off, it’s just that they may not be able to sell it that fast, or they just can’t afford it. The fact is, for places that buy from the public, you do need a lot of cash!

So check the Billboards, Newspapers, TV Commercials, Fliers, Advertisements, Shops, Stores, or even Ask your Friends and Family where they go. You won’t know until you check it all out.

And do make sure you have a Photo ID with you. You’ll need it! Plus, do note that most places require that you be 18 or older to Sell Gold.

Just so you know! :)
