Which Diamond Would You Choose Compare Stones

Let’s play a game…

I’ll show you two diamonds…

Both almost exactly the same:.

  • .92 Carat
  • Round Brilliant
  • Excellent Cut
  • Excellent Polish
  • Excellent Symmetry
  • Color F
  • GIA Certified
  • No Fluorescence

What’s the difference?

Clarity and price!

Which Diamond Would You Choose

So which diamond would you choose?

They’re very similar in appearance. So much so that it would nearly be impossible to decide… (Unless you used a microscope or a 10x jeweler’s loupe, then you’d see a difference, maybe).

But let’s make this more interesting…

Now let’s compare price:

Compare Diamond Prices

WOW!!!!

Almost a $7,000 difference.

Would you have guessed?

Probably not. And you know what? On an engagement ring, no one else would either. And this is why:

Beauty!

It’s visually appealing. You see, every diamond is different. They all face up uniquely and react with light in a different manner.

This is why some diamonds, regardless of the color or clarity, just look better (like people). They have more sparkle, more brilliance, more scintillation. It’s nature! It’s wonderful! And it can also save you a ton of money if you compare enough diamonds.

So what are the clarities of these two diamonds?

Let’s take a peek…

Flawless Diamond Verses SI2 Diamond Price

CARAT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, POL, SYM, FLUOR PRICE VIEW
.92, SI2, F, EX, EX, EX, NONE $3,840 VIEW
.92, FL, F, EX, EX, EX, NONE $10,570 VIEW

SI2, F, verses Flawless, F

SI2 has small inclusions in the diamond. They may be visible if you look good enough. The other diamond is FL, which is Flawless. There’s nothing visible in that stone (even under intense magnification).

There’s quite a leap in clarity between the two diamonds (hence the huge leap in price), but they face up almost identical.

So the trick to buying diamonds is to view the stones face up, and then from the side. Spin them around in the light. Scrutinize the type of flaws and where they are placed. Some blend in with the diamond, some stand out. Some inclusions are white, some black. Some are spread out evenly across the stone making them harder to detect, some are dead center and an eye-sore.

Let your eyes be the judge

Don’t worry so much as what the paperwork, diamond report, or ticket says… Because beauty really is in the eyes of the beholder.

Plus, your pocketbook will thank you.
