WHY IS 10KT GOLD STILL CALLED GOLD?

I Don’t Get It!

The Term “10KT GOLD” is something that’s always Bothered me.

(KT is an Abbreviation for “Karat”, NOT “Carat”)

Why is it Called GOLD?

Think about it.

10kt is only 10 Parts Gold (24 Parts is Pure Gold), and the other 14 Parts are just Alloys like Base Metal, Silver, Copper…

Just like 14kt Gold is the Opposite. That’s 14 Parts Gold and 10 Parts Alloy.

14kt has MORE Gold than Alloys, so it seems Appropriate to call it GOLD!

Just like 18kt is 18 Parts Gold and 6 Parts Alloy.

I have No Problems calling them Gold.

But 10KT?

It doesn’t make sense…

There is MORE Alloy in the Mix than there is Gold.

The Contents of 10KT Gold

Here’s the Breakdown of Contents that makes up 10 Karat Gold:

• 41.7% Gold
• 33.3% Silver
• 25% Copper

So am I Delusional in thinking it Shouldn’t be Called GOLD?

YEP!

And here’s WHY…

To be Called GOLD, it needs to be MORE Gold than anything else. So when they’re looking at the Blended Metals, they Separate them and look at their Total Percentages…

As you can see, when the Alloys are Broken up, there IS MORE GOLD than there is Silver. And MORE GOLD than Copper…

Hence, they can still call it 10KT Gold and get away with it.

Anything less than 10 Parts Gold can’t even be Labelled “GOLD” in the US. They can’t even be SOLD in the States as GOLD (it’s Illegal).

In other Countries they can sell 9KT Gold and other Blends that have Less Gold than Alloy…

But NOT HERE!

Think about that when you Order Jewelry from Over Seas… You don’t know what you’re really getting! (Or What Allergies You Could Develop!)

10kt is a Good Gold to Use for Jewelry because it’s Durable, Malleable, and Still Holds the Luster of Gold.
