$4,140???
Why?
People are always astounded when they learn that low quality diamonds are still worth thousands of dollars.
They don’t get it.
Some feel that if they spend 4 grand on a diamond, that it should be perfect, or at least eye-clean. Right?
But this isn’t the case.
Take this diamond for example…
It’s filled with black carbon spots. The stone is not cut well either, giving it dark shadows and hindering light and sparkle.
Plus, it’s got low color (K – faint yellow), and also has faint fluorescence.
See here…
So why on Earth is it selling for $4,140???
Because of Size!
It’s 1.52 carats (that’s a full carat and a half).
And that’s it. That’s all…
Just because it’s a large diamond, regardless of the other 4 c’s, it still holds its value.
Granted, 4 grand for a stone this size is dirt cheap, but you also lack the brilliance and beauty that most diamonds are known for.
Diamonds over 1 carat are rare to begin with.
And bigger stones, like 1.50, are generally lower in clarity, like I1, I2, or I3 anyway. When you get into diamonds that large, inclusions and flaws stand out more. They get noticed easier (without magnification). So eye-visible imperfections are the norm, not the exception.
And when you compare this diamond in price, with an average quality diamond (of the same carat weight) on the market (SI1, G-H quality), this is what you get…
CARAT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, POL, SYM, FLUOR | PRICE | VIEW |
1.52, I1, K, GOOD, VG, GOOD, FAINT | $4,140 | VIEW |
1.55, SI1, H, EX, EX, EX, NONE | $9,730 | VIEW |
Double the Price!
1.50 carat diamonds are rare and hard to find in higher characteristics. Especially when you consider that even these low quality stones are still the top 10% of all the diamonds mined from the Earth today.
Nature is NOT Perfect!
Diamonds get filled with impurities, birthmarks, carbon spots, clouds, cracks, inclusions, blemishes… Things that help identify and classify stones.
So even an I1 clarity diamond as this, is still worth over 4 grand.
Believe it or not!
