DO YOU NEED TO KNOW THE 4CS BEFORE YOU BUY A DIAMOND

This is a great question…

Are the 4C’s really important, and do you have to know them in order to buy a diamond?

The 4C’s are: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight.

And everywhere you go, including here, you’ll read that the 4C’s are crucial to diamond buying.

But…

Do you really need to know them?

The short answer is NO! You don’t need to know them in the least. You don’t have to study them, understand them, or even spend your precious time in order to buy a great looking diamond.

In fact, the #1 way, and the best way to purchase a loose diamond, or a diamond engagement ring, is based solely upon sight. The visual appearance. Just by looking at the stone with your own 2 eyes, you can determine if the diamond is beautiful, bright, and if you want to buy it.

Because beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. If the diamond shines, sparkles, and dances in the light, then why not buy it?

If you love it, enjoy the design, are enchanted by the bling, then you don’t need to know the 4c’s at all. You can purchase the diamond or ring, and wear it for the rest of your life, and be totally content. It really is that simple.

But the 4c’s are important for one main factor:

PRICE!

Without the 4c’s, you won’t be able to know if the price is a good deal, or a bad deal. Granted, if you like the diamond and like the price, then it still doesn’t matter…

But if you could save a grand, on the exact same diamond, wouldn’t you like to keep that money?

The 4c’s are the only way you can truly know if you’re getting ripped off, or overcharged. Because the 4c’s allow you to look at all of the specification of a diamond, compare them side by side, and see if one diamond is a better deal.

This is why the 4c’s are important.

This is why I advise learning them… You don’t need to have knowledge in every aspect, just enough to have a basic understanding of what they are, and what it means to the diamond, and your pocket book.

For example:

Compare the 2 diamonds below…

Both the exact same diamond quality; VS2, I, 1.00 carat natural diamonds in a plain solitaire mounting…

Why the Diamond 4Cs really matter

But look at the difference in price?

CARAT, CLARITY, COLOR PRICE VIEW
1.00, VS2, I, NATURAL DIAMOND; HELZBERG $8662.29 VIEW
1.00, VS2, I, NATURAL DIAMOND; JAMES ALLEN $3,775 VIEW

Shocking isn’t it?

So unless you shopped around, and compared stones and price, you may never know that a better option exists.

So take a couple of minutes and do a little reading. I’ve put together many great posts that explains the gist of the 4c’s and what really matters the most.

Cheers! :)
