QUESTION:
JOHN IN PINE BLUFF, AR, WRITES:
Is there a Proper Way to Tell Real Pearls from Fake Pearls?
ANSWER FOR JOHN:
Hi John.
The 3 Best Ways to tell that I know of are:
1) Rub the Pearl on your Teeth. Most Real Pearls will Feel Rough, while Fake Pearls will normally Feel Smooth.
2) Look at the Drill Holes in the Pearls. If the Drill Holes are Cracked or Flaked around the Edges, the Pearls are usually Fake. Plus Fake Pearls often have Bigger Holes than Real ones do.
3) Look at the Shape of the Pearl. Real Pearls will often be Irregular in Symmetry. They will usually have Slight Blemishes or Pits or Ridges that Show it’s Normal Growth Pattern. Fake Pearls usually come out Looking Perfectly Round. Also the Color of a Real Pearls will usually Vary Slightly around the Pearl, while a Fake one will be Consistent in Color all the way around.
