I love emerald cut diamonds.
They are so different and unique when compared with just about every other cut of diamond on the market.
And the main reason being: the cut.
The simplistic approach to the step cut diamond, the cleanliness of the lines sets it apart from the norm.
Emerald cut diamonds only have 57 facets, and these facets are long, thin cuts that parallel the diamond into a beautiful open arena of sheer rectangular perfection.
Take a look at the faceting of an emerald cut diamond.
The facets are called the crown tiers, the table, the girdle, the pavilion tiers, and the culet. Some say it resembles a pyramid, but the step tiers do one thing really, really well; they show off the true masterpiece of the diamond.
You see, most diamonds are cut with a starburst of facets on the bottom, which is the pavilion. This faceting gives it maximum sparkle and brilliance.
Just like these cuts of Diamonds here:
They have what they call the brilliant cutting style to make them bounce light across the base and emit scintillation, white flashes of light, and colors of light; fire.
But the emerald cut diamond does not have this starburst effect to hinder color and flaws. It’s holds clean, smooth lines that run the length of the stone freely. And without the brilliance to mask these characteristics, the emerald cut diamond actually enhances them. Makes them more obvious.
This openness and noticeability makes any impurities or imperfections in the stone, stand out ten-fold, because of the large emerald cut table. It’s like a window in the stone.
You can literally see all of the flaws, black spots, lines, feathers, cracks. You can’t hide them at all.
Just like these clarity examples below:
But, because of this clarity issue, it’s not only recommended, but well advised to look at cleaner diamonds higher up the clarity chart. This means looking at VS clarity or higher.
VS clarity emerald cuts just like these here:
See how clean they look?
With VS or higher clarity, your see-through stone becomes truly magnificent, and doesn’t have any distracting traits that spoil your view.
So if you’re looking for a clean, slick diamond, one that will truly WOW her, knock her socks off… then check out these 2 carat VS emerald cut diamonds here at James Allen.
