You want to hear something funny?
GIA (The Gemological Institute of America), are the leaders when it comes to diamond grading, technology, and setting standards in the industry…
That’s not the funny part.
Nor is it the fact that GIA wrote the 4C’s!
What’s funny is the fact that only about half of the jewelers across the country sell GIA!
Only half, but if you asked them who the best was, they’d still say GIA hands down!
So what does that show you?
That it takes too long to get it GIA certified? That it costs too much? That they don’t like the strict quality control? That they’d rather have a cheaper company do the report so the grades are more lax and lenient???
Lax grades equals “rounded up” quality, i.e. an I1 is then called an SI2…
Which means more money for the jeweler!
It’s true. It happens all the time.
If it were me…
If I were buying a loose certified diamond, especially for an engagement ring, I would never trust anyone else other than GIA.
That’s how much I rely on them and admire them.
And if you truly want the best report that you could ever get on a diamond, you should purchase GIA too!
And there’s one very simple way to determine where to buy your stone…
To know what stores sell which certs…
JUST ASK!
Call them up, or walk into their store.
Ask them pointblank:
“Do you sell GIA certified diamonds?”
If they hesitate, or say “NO, but we do sell…“
Then just turn away.
End of story!
Because if it’s not GIA, it’s not very trustworthy.
Which means, it’s really not worth your time.
Because other certificates are NOT the same!
They’re not graded the same, they’re not accurate, some have made-up qualities that GIA doesn’t even recognize.
Which really means:
You’re overpaying!
So one sentence could eliminate a lot of heart-aches and head-aches…
Just ask:
“Do you sell GIA certified diamonds?”
That’s what I’d want to know.
For I don’t care about IGI… I don’t care about EGL…
I only want GIA!
That’s a diamond report I trust.
