There are hundreds of stores you could buy watch batteries from.
Nationwide retail stores, grocery stores, convenience stores, jewelry stores, mom and pop stores. It’s endless where you could go.
So the question is: Where do you go?
Where’s the best place to buy a watch battery from?
It really depends on where you are, what you want, and how desperate you are for a battery.
Plus, prices will vary if you want someone to put the battery in for you. This type of service comes with a cost.
But, if you want to save some money and you already have the mecessary tools and equipment needed to do the job, then all you need is a battery and you’re good to go.
Tools like: watch tool kit, watch case openers, watch wrenches, jeweler’s screw drivers, and a watch case press if it has a water proof or water resistant gasket.
Grab a cell and you’ll be ticking in no time. It usually only takes a minute or two to swap out a battery, depending on the type of watch you have (some are a bear to do).
So where do you buy your batteries from?
In my area, just about any national chain carries watch batteries. But generally, these are only the most common or popular batteries, like 357, 377, 379, and 2032 (which fits in garage door openers, remote controls, key FOBs, and the such).

I took a look at a bunch of different businesses and stores that sold watch batteries to compare.
It wasn’t easy deciding on which stores to go to, since in my area there is a Target, Walmart, Kmart, Meijer, Rite Aid, Food Town, Krogers, Menards, Walgreens, Radio Shack… and of course every jeweler on the face of the earth.
I went with an assortment of stores to compare brands, prices and quantity with: Walgreens, Target, Walmart, Menards, Meijers, and Krogers.
The most common brand name of battery found was Energizer (which is the brand I recommend the most). But you’ll also find Duracell and Rayovac.
Comparing prices is not as easy as you would think, because many times they package them differently (2 Pack, 3 Pack, 4 pack). Buying in bulk does save you some money, but only if you need that many batteries.
All in all, you can get a general feel for who carries what and what prices they have (at the time of this post – 9/29). It’s also important to say that different areas and population will affect prices as well. In fact, the Walgreens up the street about 2 miles away, is $1.00 more than the Walgreens directly across the street. Crazy, eh?
Prices fluctuate and probably will vary greatly in deals and quantity. But, at the time I wrote this post, these were the prices and this is what I found:

Surprisingly, I would normally never think about going to Menards for watch batteries, but comparing them to everyone else, they seem to be the cheapest for Energizer batteries and have one of the biggest selections as well. Great deals, make sure to check them out. I know where I’ll be buying my batteries from now on…
Do keep in mind, these prices will change (and probably do daily), so these may be higher or lower than what you find in your area.
Walgreens had a big selection, but they were also higher in price than anyone else. It’s all for the convenience of running in, grabbing an item or two and running out I guess.
Want a better deal?
I would also like to point out that you can get even better deals from Amazon. They have awesome prices, but you have to also pay for shipping (sometimes), which can add up. The best way to handle this is to buy other things with the batteries to get the price up high enough to qualify for free shipping (usually $25-50), or PRIME. Why not? Do some Christmas shopping at the same time, and bam you’re done. :)

Psss… Have a jeweler change your battery.
If you don’t feel comfortable changing your battery yourself, you can head into any local jewelry store and have them put it in for you (for a slight charge). I wouldn’t recommend any other store (like Walmart) to change these batteries, only the jewelers. They have all the right tools and the professional know-how to get the job done quickly. Especially when it comes to sealing your watch with a watch case press, without breaking the case or crystal. :)
