The Best Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner

If only everything in life was this easy…

Hammacher Schlemmer, as well as Amazon (Sold much cheaper on Amazon), sell this Digital Jewelry Cleaner called “The Best Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner” on their Website and Boasts that this Product not only earned the BEST Rating from Laboratory Testing, but that it’s BETTER than any other Jewelry Cleaner Model!

Those are Pretty Big Claims!

I put this to the TEST!

This Digital Ultrasonic Cleaner, SKU# 79167, Item # 82214, Model CD-3800 (A), is boxed and arrives as seen here…

Best Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner

The Box Highlights 5 Main Features:

  • Digital Program 5 Working Cycles: Choose Freely
  • Stainless Steel Tank
  • 600 ml – 1 Pint Capacity
  • 42,000 hz of Energy Wave
  • Quiet, Solid State Circuitry

When I first read that last line on the box, I read it as “Quiet, Soli…“, the D is 4 Characters away and it took me a Second to Connect the Dots. :)

See what I mean…

Best Ultrasonic Cleaner Box Cover

And in case you didn’t see, it is made in China! Isn’t everything?

The Box also states that this Cleaner is for Professional Use, idea for Jewelers, Opticians, Watch Makers, Antique Dealers, Laboratories, and Dentists.

It also says: Domestic Use. Ideal for Glasses, Jewellery, Watches, Fountain Pens, Dentures, Razor Heads, Printer Heads, Small Silverware, Small Machined Metal Parts…

Ultrasonic Cleaner Box Side

The Key Word here is “SMALL“.

This is a Small Unit, not Quite Travel Size, but certainly Compact and Portable (which I LOVE).

It’s not Big or Clunky. It’s simple as pie, even a Monkey could use it.

The Lid says: Easy Operation.

It goes on to say: “Fill the Tank with Plain Water up to the “Max” mark. Then place the item to be Cleaned into the Tank and Press the “on” Button.

You will see the Dirt Separates off into the Water. You can Choose Freely from 5 Working Cycles by Pressing “Set” Button.

When the Working Cycle Finish, the item is clean as new.”

Clearly the Grammar is a little off, but it’s still Easy to Understand and follow.

What’s Inside the Box?

Take a peek at the Contents of the Box…

Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner

You get the Cleaner, the Jewelry Basket, the Watch Tray/Stand, and the Instruction Booklet shown below…

Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner Instruction Booklet

While I’m not much into Reading Instructions before I Start Pressing Buttons (does anyone read first?), I did notice a few things leafing through the Booklet…

It says to Fill the Tank with WATER… and that’s it!

Even Hammacher Schlemmer states on their Website that “Detergent is Optional“.

I work in a Jewelry Store and I know full well that You Can’t truly Clean Items with Water only. I know that this Ultrasonic Cleaner breaks up Dirt Particles, and that’s it’s Main Function, but I also know that I want my Jewelry cleaned and I want it to “FEEL” Clean! (not Oily)

And like many of the people state in the actual Reviews online “Use Detergent if you want your Gems to Sparkle!

It just makes Sense!

The Instruction Booklet does state later to Add Detergent for “Enhanced Cleaning“.

I Highly Recommend this!

It also states that for larger items, you can just Stick what you can in the Cleaner, Clean it, and then Stick the other Section into the Cleaner to Clean that.

I nod my Head in Agreement!

What’s the Specs?

The Specifications for this Cleaner are here (in case you had an itch for this stuff)…

Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner Specifications

Good… Now let’s begin…

Jewelry Cleaner Test!

I grab some of my Jewelry that needs Cleaning: 1 Bracelet, 1 Chain, 5 Rings… and set them off to the side.

Dirty Jewelry

I add a dash of dish soap (like Dawn) into the steel tank, and a squirt of Mr. Clean (my favorite and recommended Cleaning Solution), like so…

Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaning Solution

Next up, and this is the big “KEY” that the Instruction Booklet doesn’t tell you…

Fill the Tank with Hot Water!

Hot Water, like Hot-Hot to the touch, but NOT BOILING HOT! Just good and HOT!

Hot Water, plus the Solution combined together will make your Jewelry look like new again. Guaranteed!

Hot Water really is “the Secret” to Cleaning your Jewelry like a PRO. Once you Clean it this way, you will never Clean it any other way! :)

Adding Hot Water is the same thing as using A More Expensive Ultrasonic Cleaner that has a Heating Unit. The Heating Unit heats the liquid and makes the Solution work Better. So adding HOT Water into the Tank first instead of Cold Water does the same thing!!!

P.S. There are some Gemstones and Jewelry that SHOULD NOT go in ANY Ultrasonic Cleaner or Hot Liquid. I wrote an Entire Post about those Items here

So Add Hot Water To The Tank!

Really, it’s that important!

Once the Hot Tap Water is Poured into the Machine up to the “Max” line, as such…

The Secret To Cleaning Jewelry

You’re Ready to Clean!

Plug the Machine in now. You’ll see 180 (Seconds) show up on the Digital Display (That’s 3 Minutes).

Simply place your Jewelry, Rings, Bracelets, into the Jewelry Basket and carefully lower it into the Tank. Like so…

Insert Jewelry Into Cleaner

Shut the Lid, and Push the “on” Button…

Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaning Timer

Sit Back and Relax. Kick your Feet up…

You will see the Timer Count down and see the Window Fog up slightly as the Ultrasonic Cleaner stirs up the Solution and begins to Break Apart the Dirt Particles.

Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner Window

Once 3 Minutes has passed (You can Set the Timer to more or less time if you want – but 3 minutes is Ideal for Casual Cleanings), lift the lid and look inside.

If your Jewelry was Dirty like mine was, you’ll see the Water looks Murky or Muddy, like so…

Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner Finished

See the Dirt to the left of the Tank? That was on my Bracelet! LOL

Now just lift out the Basket (along with your Jewelry inside), and Rinse them off under the Tap (Be Careful that nothing Slips through the Holes and goes down your Drain).

You can also use a Soft Toothbrush to Dab beneath and under your Diamonds and Gemstones if need be.

Look at how Clean my Jewelry got…

Clean Jewelry

Sparkling Clean!

Ready for the Scary Part?

Take a look at what’s left on the Bottom of the Tank…

Dirty Jewelry Cleaner

Yikes! That’s GROSS!

They really needed a Cleaning!!!

It Cleans Watches Too!

You can also Clean Watches by resting them on the Watch Stand like so…

Jewelry Cleaner Cleans Watches

You can then set the Watch in the Tank to Clean, but ONLY if your Watch is Water Proof (NOT Water Resistant), and you want to take the chance. I don’t Recommend Cleaning Watches this way. I’m always Afraid that the Heat and Steam will Harm the Movement, Rust it up, or Leak inside. I Avoid it at all costs!

Instead, I Remove my Watch Band, and then Clean that in the Sonic Cleaner to get the Dirt out from between the Links (The Watch Face I’ll Gently Wipe off and Hand Clean).

You’ll know your Watch needs Cleaning when you Sweat and it leaves Black Marks on your Wrist! :)

Cleaning the Tank

Now all you have to do is to Dump the Dirty Solution down the Drain (make sure the Cleaner is unplugged FIRST!). I don’t Recommend Saving the Solution for Future use (it states to Not leave the Solution in the Tank). It takes very little Cleaner and Dish Soap to Operate, so it’s not a Big Deal… Dump it out and Start Fresh next time. Plus, doing it this way will keep your Jewelry Clean, and not ADD Old Dirt to your goods.

The Stainless Steel Tank comes clean quickly. Just Rinse and Wipe. You can’t get any simpler than that.

No Mess, No Fuss!

Rinse Out Jewelry Cleaner

So, Does this Cleaner Work?

Is it “Better” than Other Cleaners?

Yes and No. It’s not truly “Better” because it does what other Jewelry Cleaners do. It Cleans by Ultrasonic Sound Waves. And it does that Flawlessly. So in my opinion, they are Equal. It Cleans and Works Great! What more could you ask for?

Size Matters!

What I do LOVE about this Machine more than anything is the Size. It’s the Perfect Size. And Perfect for me! I LOVE IT! I do. It’s a very Cute Machine that’s Simple and not Complicated like some other machines are.

With this one, you just Fill it up, Plug it in, insert Jewelry, Push a button, wait 3 minutes and you’re done!

It literally took me 4 minutes all together to clean my items and Review this Product.

Ten Seconds to Add Detergent. 15 Seconds to add Hot tap water. 3 Minutes to clean. 10 seconds to Rinse my items off. And 25 seconds to Dump the Solution and Rinse the Tub.

I’m Impressed!

It’s Fast, Light Weight (3 lbs), Compact (easy to store), and very Portable.

The Actual Size of the Machine is a Quaint 5 /2″ x 8 1/4″ x 6″ deep, and it holds just 18 Ounces of Water!

I’m Hooked!

Plus, this Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner comes with a Lifetime Guarantee, that states directly on their Website:

“The Best Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner comes with The Hammacher Schlemmer Lifetime Guarantee at No Additional Charge. If this product ever disappoints you, for any reason, you may return your Hammacher Schlemmer purchase for Exchange, Credit, or Refund.”

You can’t Beat that!

There are 42 Reviews online…

Jewelry Cleaner Reviews

Most of the reviews were Positive, stating it was “easy to use“, “simple instructions“, “efficient“, and “good power output” (people actually say that?).

Only 3 people said it was “weak“, but I truly believe that’s because they didn’t use Hot Water or Detergent.

That’s the Trick!

Some of the Comments were…

“This Jewelry Cleaner works better than my big, bulky Professional Cleaner…”

Cleans perfectly my anit-snoring mouth device…

“Cleans Jewelry very well. Especially high-end Costume Jewelry…”

Used on all Jewelry and it was night and day difference…

One even said to use “409” to Clean Diamonds. “It’s a degreaser, cuts hand lotions, etc. Now I’m thrilled with the product…”

Prompt Delivery

“Cleans my invisalign type retainers… I use baking soda to assist cleaning and they are always fresh and clean…”

Pretty quiet too, although it will freak out your cat, which is hilarious

And lastly…

Love the Cleaner!

And you know what? So do I!

And I also have a feeling that if you purchased this cleaner, you would say the same thing.

If you need a little Cleaner, or if you want a Great Gift for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Birthdays, Christmas, Graduation, Anniversaries, whatever… This is a Wonderful Present that is Practical, Charming, and they’ll use it all the time.

Who doesn’t want Clean Jewelry?

Word of Advice!

Just to let you know that the Safety Instructions clearly read: DO NOT USE WHILE BATHING!

… in case you were into that type of thing!

I will give them a Huge High Five for their Adorable little Dirt and Bubbles drawing in the Instruction Booklet demonstrating how their “Ultrasonic Waves” work…

Cute Jewelry Cleaner Instructions

My Favorite Warning:

Running Without Water May Damage The Unit!

That puts a smile on my face. DOH
