Okay, forget color. Forget clarity. Forget certification…
In fact, forget everything you know about diamonds and quality…
Because there’s truly only one thing that ultimately matters:
SPARKLE!
If the diamond doesn’t sparkle like mad (also called the life of a diamond), then it shouldn’t be on your finger.
Diamonds are all about brilliance and sparkle and scintillation (light effects).
That’s why we love them. That’s why we want them…
They’re Beautiful!
We get lost in the incredibly bright flashes of white light and color (called fire). That’s what makes diamonds stand out as the king of gems.
And the funny thing is…
Diamonds of any shape, any color, any clarity; can sparkle like crazy!
Some diamonds with a low grade (I clarity, J color), can outshine better, more cleaner (expensive) stones.
Which is why you should never dismiss a certain clarity or color (some people are bent on one particular quality). Or even certification for that matter.
Because each diamond is different. And every stone has its own unique personality and characteristics (just like people).
Each stone should be judged individually for visual beauty.
GIA Recognizes this
When GIA updated their cut grade guidelines at the turn of the century, one of the things they changed was how the diamond visibly appears.
They included visible sparkle and beauty into their grading system…
Because it’s true, some diamonds, no matter what, react with light better than others. It catches the light, bounces it across the pavilion, and flashes it back to your eyes like a thousand stars in the sky.
Some stones do this incredibly well.
Way Better than others
It’s something you have to see to believe.
A diamond with a lower clarity, lower color, could look 1000x better than a diamond of a much higher quality (which could also be double the price).
So you MUST View the Stone!
Places like James Allen allow you to view the stone BEFORE you buy it (not to mention they have some of the lowest diamond prices on Earth).
They allow you to view the actual stone (not some stock photo), see it under 10x magnification (so you can see the flaws inside the stone), and spin the stone around 360° to view it from all vantage points and see how the light flashes and sparkles off the facets.
It’s Stunning to Witness
So Before you Buy a Diamond…
Put aside the paperwork…
Stare at the Stone
Rotate the diamond around, spin it, look at how the light plays with the proportions and cuts…
That’s the True Charm!
That’s what you want to see…

An Excellent Cut Grade
Cut makes the diamond sparkle more than any other 4C (color, clarity, carat weight).
It’s all about the CUT!
Seriously!
The better the cut (and Excellent is the BEST), the more that diamond will sparkle.
